Weird plug readings**Updated W/ pics**

That was the first thing I did after it dropped a cylinder the first day out while tuning. It got better but still ran like ass. After a long talk with John @ JSS this morning, the wires are more than likelly the culpret. I should have it back in a week or so.

its possible you pinched a wire when you sealed the Ebox back up the first time...I have done that before...

hell, yesterday I was buttoning up my REV hull and went to hit the green button for the first time...dead. :aargh4:

turns out I had forgotten to plug the red wires together in the box :1244:

LOL. I was checking my compression yesturday and inadvertantly hit my bilge switch. I thought the starter was still engauged and started freaking out tring to disconnect the battery before I realized what it was.:icon16:

I split the wire ends open and I'm sure I found the problem. The top wire came out in one piece and looked fine. The bottom wire was completelly seperated in two parts. If I would of cut the wire back another 1 1/2" it would of fixed the problem.

Gasgas and I spent about an hour and put new Moroso solid core wire in his coil, hopefully that solves his issue he had the same symptoms as you were having.

"No excess gas dripping out. That was the fist thing I checked. I have brand new needle and seats and I adjusted the popoff at 40 psi."

40 ?

Hey Butch. I guess I cant say I "adjusted" the popoff to 40psi. When I got the ski it had a Coffman exhaust and the previous owner "rejetted" by lowering the popoff by bending the spring arms. I leveled them back out and popoff read 40 psi with my ghetto popoff gauge. It could be 43psi like it is supposed to be but not sure.

I sent mine to JSS to get new wires put on. I should not have any more issues like this for a LONG time.

Glad you found the problem.

These damn wires always act up when your under a load. Almost imposible to find if you can see the wire and it looks fine to the eyes. Nice job.

I was thinking 43 pop off is real high but I havnt ran 38's in a long time.. I just looked and both of my pop off gauges only go up to 40.. Guess mine are cheaper than yours !!

According to John @ JSS, when I raised the compression it took more spark than it did with the stock head to fire the plug. Combining that with running it under load in the water the wire just couldn't support the spark. The wire was just too deteriorated to jump the gap so to speak. What made this more confusing is that I cut the wire back 1" but it still wasn't enough.

Yea, I'm running stock 38's. Your running 44's I bet.

The Ohm meter is your best friend when chasing electrical problems. You cannot always assume that the wire is only broken an inch or so from the plug caps. I have seen several fail near the Ebox, but only when wiggled while testing with the ohm meter. The biggest failure cause for the stock or any wire is the vibration and wiggle of the wires while running. Personally I run two wire holders on the head to keep the wiggle factor down. So far I have had no problems with my coil running good 18 or 20 strand wire. I wish I had seen that Moroso 8mm wire that Crab is using when I did mine a while back. It looks like it would hold up better than anything I have seen yet.

Well, he did not have luck, so he brought it over and we checked the compression. 154/156 37cc domes. One of the plugs was fine (rear) the front was black. I suspect its fouled so we threw in another new set and gapped to .025, he'll be calling me in a while from the lake. If that didn't fix it, looks like the head is coming off.

When I get my coil back and if it dont fix the problem, I will probably go insane.

I hope your buddy finds his problem. Stupid jet skis.

I have a Fluke multimeter and I need to learn how to use it. I'm sure it's easy but I'm a tard when it comes to electrical.

He called about 15 minutes ago from the ramp, ran good in the water on the trailer and was trying to push his car up the ramp!:Banane09: My feeling is a combination of problems, 30 degree water causing lack of heat in the motor coupled with jetting that may have been to rich. He may be calling back if he goes out for a test ride in the next hour or two. Changing the plug wire wasn't really that tough, I just need to make a better tool, the one I made was out of brass and was a little soft.

I did away with my dual cooling. Water comming out of my pissers was barelly even warm. It's not needed with my close to stock setup.
