After giving the hull and pump all this love, I was planning on running this engine another season, but pulling the exhaust mani revealed a very scored up set of slugs. Amazes me, this bugger still made 160psi. Oh well, down she goes. Getting into it, I sure do have a bucket of bolts here...
This cranks been welded and has a growly MAG bearing, rods are pitted. Thinking shes ready for retirement. I want to make a flywheel holder for the lathe anyways. The piston pins are seemingly wrong (the other circlip is installed in that photo, looks like 5mm too short) they clearly werent rotating as there is the nastiest groves in them I have ever seen. Hone cyl. Weld the crater in the head. Tune up the chunked mag side bottom case, maybe line bore the journals. And find a flywheel
Not sure I like the idea of running a cracked magnet on a 61x setup. Funny, it did feel very flat up top but I always assumed It was pipe and pump tuning. But now thinking otherwise. Anyone got a spare 61x flywheel? Not sure im ready to make the jump to a a 760/zeel setup just yet
Concern in the front bearing journal of the cases: In the snowmobile world any signs of bearing migration is big no go. But our bearings aint pinned. Who votes kiss it with a flapper and green loctite the next bearing? And who says "shame on you, scrap it" Or at least send it to the machinist for a line bore?
