WaveDemon's 66e SJ Conversion - new ride report.

After blowing up my Frankenstein motor last week it was time to put the 66e project on the front burner.

the goal:
66e in stock SJ with no hull modifications
stock gas tank
B-Pipe
stock battery box
ridiculous power :)

so far, we've got the conversion bed plate done (turned out to be a bigger job than expected), the exhaust flanges done, manifold pipes prepped, and a little grinding on the motor to remove the old front mounts and a protrusion in the way of the pipe chaimber.

here is a teaser pic:

Big thanks to tom21 for a place to work, tools to machine and work with, a good deal on a 66e, and all the help working on this thing! :Banane35:www.skishoprules.com

more pics and vids to come.

Thanks to Jeff Curry too for letting me ask him lots of questions a couple of months ago when I scored this motor!

***update 3/25/08***

the exhaust manifold is made but needs a water jacket still. working out a template for the sheetmetal waterjacket is tough!. found out the bed plate is in the way of the stock carbs so that went back on the mill today.

good news is the motor with complete exhaust (minus waterjacket on manifold) bolted bolted in and fits.:Banane57:

manifold bolted up.

ride report:

I had a little less than an hour to kill today so I took the ski to the water. I was pretty happy with the way it ran for just dropping it in with no tuning. It actually ran well. The ride was cut a little shorter than the little time I had because my bilge pump died. I'm running low open carbs so I didn't want to push my luck.

I need to tune the carbs, adjust the powervalves (they were non-functional today), put some restriction in the cooling lines (the engine was not very warm after running), tune the pipe, build a sheetmetal arrestor. after I get it tuned better I'm going to look a little more into cutting the bottom of the cylinders to lower port timing.

assembled conversion after test ride:

I don't know, I used it off and on for 3 years. I probably ride about 8 hours a month. that motor was proably used less than half of the time over the 3 years so:
8 hours x 12 months x 1.5 years=144 hours
144 would be a high guess

tell bill I want my money back. :veryhappy:
