So late this past fall a few of guys i ride with went out to ride surf in ludington, lake michigan. They claim the day started off great. Big waves, warm, sunny, you know "perfect day on the big lake." Only three of them an SJ and two octanes. not even an hour into the ride my buddies 03 octane's starts to slowly ride lower in the water. Engine dies and the thing starts to head for davey jone's locker!!! DIDNT even bob like a cork or anything. Completly under water. Between him and another guy they strap it to the other octane to try n keep it from going to the bottom. While the other guy went to get a the coast guard! The dumb dicks tow it in right and bring it home. Takes it out later that week in the grand river to see if it will float. Sinks like a rock! we put drain plugs in, it pisses out 3 or 4 gallons of water out the tray. Wish i could of been there and i dont have any pictures.

So we let it drain for a couple months. "GREAT IDEA." Put the sleds away and deside to get at it. First we cute a hole for a 24-7 scupper and more water comes out. As we dig out the foam its all f^cked!! We call Randy.

He goes "good news. you can fix it. bad news. it will be the ********iest thing you have ever had to do." Cut the tray and start digging!!!!

We rip everything out of the ski. Even the handle pole! Start taking the turf off. Cut the fiberglass from the footholds. And there is no way it was leaking in from there. the glass was super think and hard to get off. Pull them out. cut holds in the side of the tray. and dig and dig and dig. Pull the tail pipe out. more water comes out! and dig some more. After 4 hrs, cuts all over our arms and iching like a motherf^cker we called it quits. Ill load some pics later tonight.

sounds like an octane. I read that by 04 they got the kinks worked out. But seeing two octanes outside of a freeride is priceless. wonder why they don't make those anymore.

Atleast it didn't sink to the bottom.

I was looking at it tonight. im gonna chip off the old sealer on the bond lines. it looks like its cracked and pulling away. what is a good sealer to use to redo it all? What should i do about the pump and ride plate bolts? Any thoughts on the house were the drive shaft leaves the engine compt? Im not about to go through this next winter again. because i want to actually work on mine. so i plan on doing all the PEVENTIVES. no joke i have spent more time workin on this guys octane then my own. and i had mine a year before he got his.

Sounds like an exhaust hose popped off and filled it with water. There is no other way it could've sunk that fast unless the hood fell off.

Make sure you put a bilge in with that scupper for backup.

THis exact same thing happened to me when i was ski clueless. :smashfreakB: I put the hose back on in claybanks and no more problems. :439:
