turffed bumpers

how hard is it to turf the side an front bumpers. instead of putting the stock plastic ones on. is there anything i should really know to be able to make this easier. Thanks Rich

Cut it in strips with a half an inch of overhang, give or take. Lay it in the top of the rail first then wrap it around the side. Once it's dry trim and sand the edge at a 45* angle. If you give the glue plenty of drying time before you lay it down you won't have any problems. Not enough time and it will pop right up.

A handfull of cheap plastic spring clamps will help keep pressure on the edge while it sets up too. I picked up a set of 20 clamps for under $8 at harbour freight that come in very handy for such jobs.

Don't do it.
It adds no benefits other than maintenance IMO. Keep the stock rails.

If you need some on the bond line for a hood trick just install a small piece on top of the rail where you need it.

You can also use mixing sticks between the clamps to help disperse the pressure across a larger area. Just my .02

Turf the rails...it's easy.

Just put two coats of glue on both surfaces . and let them dry completely . so you can touch them.

you shouldnt need any clamps , although if you put it on the horizontal surface first , and then heat the rest of it with a heat gun , the vertical piece will fit easier...

I never filled the holes , and my turf is going on 3 years old now

But be sure and rough up the finish with 40 grit sand paper for the glue to bite into.

if you dont fill in the holes from the OEM rail it will blow the turf off the sides...you gotta fill them with thickened epoxy first

oops.. I guess I should have done that.
Maybe I can spot fill from the backside of the rail? Either way, turfing the rails was not that bad, but it does look like azz when it does start to peel.

my first season with it i just scuffed up the paint. the second season I sanded all the paint off and turfed to that on the rails and it sticks way better. The heat gun is your friend and be liberal with the glue. As long as you fix any peel spots right away they don't get bad.

My first year i just kept letting them peel, that's how to make it look like crap.

blowsion side rails.

blowsion makes some that r molded, have theme extrawide, for larger surface area for the side rails not sure on front bumper. was going to paint my front bumper different color dont like the gay ass purple, not sure how well that rubber will paint and stay

I agree with this. Its the easiest thing to do, and the clamps help a lot, and I dont see how it requires more up keep than plastic rails. If you do it right the first time you wont have to redo it.
