I need some padding for under my turf and I dont feel like paying $60 a roll or whatever it is from HT... I know Ive heard others talking about using some of the camping pads. I found this on Dicks website...

So I guess my question is, is this the same type of foam as the stuff that HT is selling basically?? The one from Dicks is closed cell, polyethylene foam. I know the HT stuff is closed cell but im not sure that its polyethylene.

Its 24"x72"x3/8" for $12.99.

Here is the link from Dick's webiste:

Hmm, ok maybe their prices have gone down since last year when I was buyng underpadding. Its now $32 for 39"x72" sheet of 5/16" / 8mm underpadding.

$80 for a sheet of 1" stuff
$20 for a sheet of 5mm stuff

ANYWAY, is the stuff from Dicks an acceptable substitute for the HT stuff?

The stuff you're looking at from Dick's works great, but go to Wal Mart - I think it's about $6. I've had it on my ski for two seasons and it holds up great - no sign of collapsing. Sticks great too if you use enough layers of glue.

Yeah I tried looking at walmart and the only thing I could find there was Polyolefin foam padding made by Ozark Trail, Is that the stuff your talking about?

After some further research I believe that the HT stuff is Ethylene Vinyle Acetate foam.

Adrian and I just did mine yesterday. I picked up some blue ~1/2 thick camping pad from Wal-mart. It was like $5.96 plus tax or something like that. It is in the sporting goods section rolled up. here are some not-so-good pics I took yesterday with my camera. Oh, and Adrian had some pink princess foam stuff that we put where your elbows go to make it nice and soft. :)

And if you ever let Adrian help you do your turf, don't let him be the one to pound it down. he got a little wild and whacked one of my footholds. I had to take the mallet away from him and show him how to do it properly! :smashfreakB: BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I thought everybody turfed the footholds and rails before the bottom and the tray and dash?

That way there is no crying over spilled glue

That's right, but I thought I'd try it this way round this time (especially since it wasn't my ski :cool2:) This way you get much better seems where the sides meet the bottom/dash, and you actually don't have to be that smart at all to avoid dripping glue...

They have a pad at wal-mart that has a Golds Guy emblem on it and it is a work out pad for $18. It is 1 inch thick and super soft. That is what I plan on using this summer. You can also use the Door mats or kitchen mats at walmart but they are just a bit firmer than the HT stuff. I think you need 4 of them to make 1 inch padding (1/2 inch thick) and they are $7 each. I used thoes last year and they are just like the HT.

thats the exact stuff I saw at walmart too. I guess at $5.96 Ill give it a try! Thanks for the input guys

so you can use these mats as a replacement for the underpadding from hydroturf? i may be installing footholds soon, and looking to save some money. so i can buy these cheaps mats from wal-mart and use the diamond cut over top?

I used the kitchen mat just as the whole StLouis crew did on my last ski and it worked out great just had to double it to get it ot 1 inch. It felt harder than I would like it to be that is why I said that my next job (mid summer this year) I will be using that exercise mat.

I tried to look it up online but cannot find it. I will get one next time I am at walmart and post pictures. It looks like thoes foam floating mats used in pools. I may pick up a few since it looks like they are not going to handle them anymore.

Why don't you guys just call me and tell me you need under pad for your stand up and I will sell you a pre cut one for $15 for 8mm or $35 for 25mm. If someone told you that we don't do that then you were told incorrectly and I apologize for that. Give me a call and I will hook you up. You do not have to buy a full sheet.

Wal-Mart dude $7 bucks for a 1/2" thick closed cell foam kitchen matt. They work great and you can double them up if you want it thicker they last forever.
