When your ski breaks down in the water and you have to be towed in, does that flood your engine with water? A friend of mine put shut off valves in his waterlines incase he breaks down. wondering if that is necessary? does it matter if you tow the ski backwards or forwards?
Thanks.

As long as you keep the nose above the water its ok. towing backwads isnot a good idea :)..
water lines have nothing to do with flooding the ski, its the vent openings on the hood that cause most of the water intrusion

exactly, its the hood vents mostly. It helps if you have a rider in the tray to help bring the nose up and make sure it doesnt fall over sideways

The water getting compressed through the pump will force water into the engine but only if the tow vehicle goes fast enough to get you up on plane otherwise the impeller (not going around) will block this issue at low speed.

Like already mentioned, Jetski cooling water is forced from your pump through the lines and into the water jacket of your cylinder/head when the pump is pressurized, so to answer your question, it depends on how fast you tow the ski. If you're towing slow like slightly above idle speed, then water will not compress in the pump enough to force water through your cooling lines, however if you tow fast such as on plane then water will compress in the pump and fill the cooling jacket and ultimately flood your motor. Towing fast is like turning on a hose on a flush kit without the engine running
