Tom21 footholds and 1 inch pad question

I was checking the clearance of my tom21 footholds with the 1 inch pad. It almost seems like it is too tight (ankle breakers). If this is normally how tight they fit, how easy do your feet come out during a wreck? I am thinking about trimming the pad down, or using two layers of 8 mm. Let me know how you like the fit of yours (mainly how easy your feet come out of the foothold). Thanks

if you don't have to kick in, you'll fall out of them when you're upside down.

If both feet stay in the holds, you won't break your ankles. Injuries occur when you AREN'T in the footholds.

The 25mm pad will squish down over time. I've put extra turf on the instep area to compensate. I wouldn't trim.

What he said, they are designed by tom for the 25mm pad. I have added extra pad on top also to make them nice and tight. If you fall you come right out.

thanks for the advice. I understand tom made them for the 1 inch pad but i have 3 layers of fiberglass on the bottom and plenty of resin. I was worried that I had built it up too much. I will just use the full 1 inch pad unless someone suggest otherwise. Thanks guys!

BTW: I love my tom21 holds. I love 25mm pad. They will loosen over time, as said. You will find ways to tighten them up until a re-turf. Until then....enjoy!
