To Tubbie or not to Tubbie?

has the handling improvement made your flatwater tricks any better? or just your riding input lazier? i can't see how you would need to rail the corner for that setup wake. like kahuna said you don't see anyone competing with them because for flatwater tricks the superjet already handles perfect for everything. just imo, each to there own.

I disagree... The Trinity SXR is by far the best hadling freestyle ski I have ever ridden.... SJ's are old news.

I dont think that Tubbies would hurt for even a flatwater boat..... They should give you more pop off the lip... Almost like a SXR hull, but still no where close

I forgot!
your right they won't hurt but i just don't think you need them, most guys riding flatwater, doing their tricks have masterd their ski without them so thats probably why alot of guys riding flatwater don't use them as much as surf guys. i like the way superjets handle without and imo i don't need them for my riding.

Probably true... It would just seem to be added weight for most people :eek5:

I don't compete, but I love them for flat and surf. I don't know why you say they suck.

Exactly what is it that sucks about them on flat? :dunno:
Seriously....I keep seeing you say that, but I'd like to know what exactly it is that makes them bad for flat. I've had them on for over a year now, and I can't think of a single thing that's bad about them for flatwater freestyle, but I am probably missing something or not thinking of something.

Certain tricks may require you to turn quick and bury the nose, power 360, fakey sub, corkscrew (sitting on the hood and crank the bars hard left or right, bury the nose and ski follows underwater, you keep spiralling down underwater and then try to ride it out) with tubbies it makes them almost impossible or more difficult.. But like I said, they have their place and you don see them on any competition ski's, they are not needed............... but that is a preference that we decide on, does not mean you cannot run them.......

It is just an opinion................. Mine........... not yours....... Mine Mine Mine.................... Mom................... ;):rocketwhore::rocketwhore::rocketwhore::popworm::popworm::popworm::popworm:

See Red...........

Side not, hated to hear that Bobby was not gonna have the new boat at havasu for everyone to see........... Looks good

I do admit that the addition of Tubbies requires a bit more body input for turn subs, etc...but they are still very much easy to do.
So, I don't think they hold you back on those tricks.

My opinion can beat up your dad's opinion. :fingersx:

I would disagree completely.......I can turn sub just as easy with tubbies as I can without them.....

You make tubbies out to be the worst thing you could do to a flatwater ski???

no, I make them out to be what I found when riding some SJ's with tubbies on them, I also said in rough water and surf they were great..........

I guess we are not allowed to have our own opinions are we............

Oh, I have been competing for 4 years, 3rd in AM Freestyle at the 06 APBA Nationals, but hey, what do I know.........

Out of curiosity: Has your riding experience with tubbied SJ's been limited to the occasional every now and then "hop on and try it" after being used to non-tubbied rides?

Or have you spent a considerable amount of time on tubbied SJ's and tried to partially relearn the tricks in question to make them work?

I ask because I realize certain things work differently and require more or less rider input between the two setups.
One cannot just jump from one setup to the next and expect things to work the same.
With practice and experience, you can make them the same. But that's all rider. If you're not used to it, it won't happen.

Hey Matt, I have ridden them enough to make my judgments. Also, on a flat water lake, running up the lake with a ski with tubbies tends to make the nose hunt some, unless ski is set up for racing with rear extensions and really long plate.

Yup, interestingly enough it happens only at medium speeds, not low or high speeds (in my experience).
Sure made for some funny moments after first putting them on. :haha:

Anyways, I am sure people can form an opinion of what they want to do.
I wouldn't put them on a freestyle comp boat, precisely because they don't make any flatwater trick any better.

But for all around rec riding, surf riding, freestyle, screwing around - one of the best mods.

IMHO.

I've got tubbie envy, now what does it take to get a set. I doubt anyone has a spare set of 2s laying around. Who makes them, are there knock offs?
