Here is a thread of my Tigercraft Aquabot build. Let me start off by freely admitting I’m a noob. But, I’m trying to share what I learn as I go. Keep in mind that I’ve been riding about a year and a half and surf riding about 9 months. This is my first aftermarket hull and my experience has mostly been on old SN superjets.
I ordered the hull from Tony (Tigercraft) back in Aug 13 and got delivery in Jan. To be fair though, I did tell him I wasn’t in a hurry. So back in Aug, I emailed Tony several times but he always wanted to talk on the phone instead. That was fine. He spent a lot of time with me on the phone and was pretty helpful. He offered me a lot of options that being a noob I really didn’t know what I should ask for. I also told him I was interested in as basic a hull as possible because I’m cheap (broke) and needed to keep costs down. So turf, decals, special colors, adjustable footholds, and a few other options were deleted. He was helpful and pretty accommodating about that aspect. Price was the main thing that led me to this hull. I did read everything I could find (at the time there wasn’t much) but there was no one else in the $3500 price range. Not sure what he is pricing now, this was when he had “introductory pricing” going.
So we agreed on the options and I sent him an email stating so just because I have read some horror stories about A/M hull manufacturers. I wasn’t comfortable sending half the money up front with nothing written down. He responded to the email, sent me his address and I sent him a cashiers check for half the price. He let me know when he received the check and then I didn’t hear from him for a while. Like I said, he sometimes isn’t very good with his emails but every time I called, he talked with me as long as I wanted. I wasn’t aware that about Nov, he retooled and came out with the V2s. I saw it on facebook and called about it because I was curious. He told me I was getting a V2. Cool deal. We agreed on a hull before there was a V2 so I couldn’t complain if he sent me a V1. Then in Dec, I called and he told me my hull was done. Since we were both going to Daytona, we agreed I’d just pick it up there. Saved me $400 on the hull shipping costs! And he used it as one of his displays so good for us both I think. Sure enough, I got to Daytona and there it was! I was pretty excited.
OK so all those folks that gripe about not hearing from Tigercraft, I had a little of that experience but it really wasn’t that bad. And the fact that I didn’t have money for a motor yet, I really wasn’t in a hurry. I was excited and wanted it, but wouldn’t be building it until Feb anyway. So what I’m saying is, I’ve had better customer service but when pressed he gives what he says he is going to. I’ve read a lot worse about some other A/M hull manufacturers. And when all is said and done, I told him I wasn’t in a hurry and I got a pretty cool hull for a price that is in my budget.
now let me see if I can figure out how to upload movies and pictures….
