well i asked you guys about Daytona a few weeks back about where to ride b.c my boys and i were all supposed to go yesterday for a long weekend but then disaster struck last weekend.....:banghead:
ok i will try to make this as simple as i can but a lot of siht happend in less than six seconds
so my throttle return spring broke and i didnt know it i thought i was having cable trouble b/c it was a lil rough and was getting ready to break so after a long day of riding i had my trailer backed in the water and was going to load my ski when i went to start it i did not know the throttle was stuck wide open and as soon as i pressed start my ski rips out of my hands, hits my trailer, makes a sharp left and heads towards shore full throttle where my buddies kawi was beached and ends up ramping up the side of the kawi about 25mph and goes airborne about 4-5ft and the ends up nose stabbing a tool box on the front of one of my other buddies trailers on shore still sceaming and bouncing off rev lmt untill we shut it off. lets just say it was an expensive 6 sec and there wasnt a damn thing i could do :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
luckly everyone was ok b/c it could have been much worse and on top of that the the trailer i landed on usually has the brand new $10,000supercharged sea doo couch sitting right where i landed and he happened to take it out that day :hail: :hail: :hail:
so long story short, i bought my buddy a new toolbox , my other buddy a new hood and am now going to start the repair on my ski and since i already have to remake the front im shaving the gas cap, i bought footholds, and am making the squarenose round!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :arms: :haha:
ill keep you guys posted on the rebuild but untill then heres some pics of the damage

My concern about something like that happening is the very reason I've gone back to using a lanyard. If someone had been hurt imagine sitting on the witness stand explaining why you purposely disabled the built in safety device that came on the boat. Hope you get it fixed w/o too much trouble.

yes this is the same mentallity i have. i usually never let go when i fall cause i hate swimming after my ski, but theres always a few times when i don't and the ski goes off, i couldn't imagine watching my ski from in the water potentially hurt some one.

theres always a chance something could happen.

I had tried riding without a lanyard for a while, but the more I thought about it, I realized that I would not want the ski to be out of my control at any time. Especially if the throttle was stuck, I would want it to shut off as soon as I let it go. I remember several years ago I fell when the lanyard was disabled and even though it was idleing it did not circle and nearly ran ashore. Luckily I was able to get to it before anything happened. :banghead:

yea, thanks god no one was hurt.
so if your throttle feels a little squishy/a lil resistance make sure to check it. i have a lanyard but was putting the ski on the trailer and had it connected to be able to drive it on. just a crazy freak thing
ill keep ya posted on cutting up the front and makin it round:biggthumpup:

I agree with you and I ride with a lanyard about 90% of the time, but how many of us would have just left the lanyard dangling when loading the ski onto the trailer? I seriously doubt that I would have put it on just to idle a few feet and put it away. What would you guys have done?

shortened the hood to the mid body line, making a mold for my own round nose, and added extra breathers:Banane01: glass work comes next along with rear breather and handholds:sneaky:
where can i get good handholds????
oh and i banged out the tool box as good as new

looks pretty cool! My ski's in for some remodeling this winter, and I havent modded my hood or anything yet. Lemme know how it turns out! The hood shaved down like that could look pretty cool, kawi-esque

I had the carburator spring break on me while riding and I nearly ******** my shorts when it happened! .Since then, I always inspect the spring occasionally to prevent any other castastrophies from happening.

I had my lanyard snap and took my ski running straight into the inlet on outgoing tide. I thought it was gone but it started to turn @ 100 yards away. I did alot of swiming and was half out to sea by the time I got to it. I'll never use one of those again.

ski took off without me.

needless to say ALOT of swimming, cursing, they arent fool proof either.
