The Girl's Square Nose build (650/701 swap)

Well here she is. I picked up a 93 square a couple weeks ago. Paid $800, plus $35 in registration/title transfer fees. A little pricey for here in SO cal, but not by too much. The ski is bone stock with the exception of a crappy cotton mesh K&N FA, and a Ocean Pro Ride plate. The ski is in really clean condition. The stock paint still has a gloss to it. Up front there is a little tiny bit of over spray from something else the previous owner had painted. I purchased it from the second owner, and he was good friends with the original owner. He said the ski has never been in salt, not that it really matters, but there is very very little corrosion on any thing. Has the stock mats which are in really really good condition for their age.

I took her out to the lake the weekend after I bought it. The carb needed a little bit of adjustment and would need a rebuild if I were to use this engine, but the ol' 6M6 is getting ripped out in a couple of weeks anyways.

I'm not doing anything crazy to this ski, but I'm gonna set it up nice for my fiancee.

I have ordered a bunch of parts that will be arriving here next week. I'll post a pic of all of those when they come.

  I have a stock 62t/61x motor with no more than 35 hours on it that I'm gonna slap in. For right now we're gonna just use the stock pipe, but I'll keep my eye open for a b-pipe or other one day. I'm gonna rebuild the carbs before I put the motor in, but other then that nothing is getting done with the motor.

  I'm going to re mat it, and I'm thinking about surf jet Louie footwells (I think that is who had them).

  I'm either going to order a chin pad cover or just use hydroturf on the pad

  Still trying to decide on which graphic kit I'm going to order.

So all I have gotten done on the ski is I turfed the chin pad.

First time through I tried using the stock foam that was under the stock cover, but once we got the turf on it, the turf just pulled on the stock foam so much it just ripped up.

So you can see pics of my first attempt, and then pictures of it finally covered. I didn't do that good of a job. I should have been more patient with the trimming with the razor blade, but it looks alright for a chin pad that is on a ski that will practically never get ridden. I also got a crease on the side of pad that I couldn't work out.

here are some pics a rolling stand we made for the AC scissor stand. Just used some scrap 2x4's I had lying around and purchased a set of four , $3 casters from Harbor Freight. The rolling stand would have cost less than $20 even if I had purchased two 8ft lengths of 2x4. So if you purchase an AC scissor stand, you can make it a rolling stand for less than $20 more.

Here is a pic of some of the new parts that I bought for the ski.

I like all the stuff I bought from blowsion, but kinda sucks that almost every single blue anodized aluminum part I bought is a slightly different shade of blue. Not that it matters b/c none of the parts are close enough to each other to tell, but I'll always know.

Why didn't you go ahead and finish the sides (holding the stand bottom) out with 2x4's from end to end on that cart? Looks kinda iffy as it is now, just my .02.

Trust me, that scissor stand isn't going any where. We put another brace on the adjacent corner that is hard to see in the picture. The AC stand wouldn't pop out from the side for nothing. The rolling stand is the perfect length so that it won't twist out, and then there are braces on each side to keep it from sliding out side ways.

Yeah we were gonna run a whole length of 2x4 down the side, but felt it wasn't needed. Its all about weight reduction. J/K.

Unlike other people's home made rollings stands for their scissor stand, we tried to kick out the caster's to sit a little wider than the bottom of the AC stand. Just wanted to give it that little bit more stability.

yeah. that was a good idea. mine don't feel unstable at all, but i wouldnt have said no to a wider stance either.

Yeah, I didn't think it would make that much of a difference, but thought I would incorporate it into the design while I was doing it.

So its been a while. The engine is in the hull. I had a little trouble with the throttle cable and the dual carbs, my solution was to use an adjustable throttle wheel.

This square hood is kinda warped in the front, and the the hull side where the hood makes contact is drooping. So there is a large gap where lots of water can come in. I never noticed it until I pulled everything off to do my round nose pole conversion. I'm gonna try a buddy's hood to see how bad my hood is warped. In the mean time I'll just try to use some weather stripping to seal it up until it gets fixed... If it ever gets fixed.

I have been working on a round nose pole conversion. I was at first going to use the stock square bracket, but then went back to using my stock round nose bracket.

I didn't feel like pulling the ski apart to reinforce from the inside, so I just did some exterior reinforcing. I used two layers of 1708 and one layer of 5.5oz carbon. Filled all the holes on top, and got rid of that funky divot that is under the stock bracket.

The I just painted it, drilled new holes. The hood hooks are mounted independently from the pole bracket. Right now I reused the stock round nose backing plates and the hood hooks are have no backing plate... My friend carl is making a true backing plate that covers the hole underneath, like an x-metal backing plate would do.

I reused the stock square pole bolt. I just cut it down, and had it re-threaded.

nice how hard it is to bolt in a 701 to the sn hull? I have heard it just bolts in no modifications right? How much to you think it would cost for a shop to do it?
