flatwater aerial tricks have always been a buy in, thats why i dont ride freestyle. well that and water pigs, they stink..

You don't ride freestyle because you have awesome surf practically in your backyard. For the rest of us, we have to make do with flatwater - unfortunately.
Trust me, I would much rather ride surf on a relatively stock ski than flatwater on an expensive carbon hull. Hell, I tried moving closer to surf and couldn't (didn't find a job). It sucks.

SO FAR CHANGE SUCKS!!!!!!
I feel so proud of myself for accomplishing what I have so far and I'm very excited to keep learning. This sport is full of great people and I love that I'm part of it. Backies, rolls, and other tricks are very much still "alive" to me since I have yet to pull them off. This sport is in me and is definitely progressing and getting better.

see thats what i like to hear. instead of a buncha camel toes that never ride, much less backflip, running thier mouth on a keyboard. haha whats really funny is when you see people like stantheman that are spoiled with their surf and want to look cool so they down flatwater. surf, flatwater, racing who the :):):):) cares, people are having a good time and staying cool in the summer. stick with it dj700. you got the right approach.

This thread is like a game of telephone, played by deaf children. (kinda reminds me of a PWCT read) It seems that the original message has been WAY lost, so I'll quote it so everyone can re-read it.

I am not sure where "evil rich guys" (BTW - smarmiest post of the decade award for that one!) or "dead sport" (eyeroll) came from, but it wasn't from the original post.

You are correct!

However, I don't think that I read any denial that the FWBF has lost prestige. It has. But a lot of us still like to see them.

The biggest trick in freestyle "now has a pricetag" ......very debatable. It still boils down to talent vs. equipment. This, I believe was the posters' point. He also looked forward to a time when the BF would not be the "biggest trick". I'm with him 100% on that point. Sure! Lets see something amazing! ......oh yea....Lee Stone flatwater superflip.... O.K, we saw that....give us more. RIGHT NOW! lol.

Tricks ARE advancing. Any rider paying attention could see that.

Talent IS still part of the mix. Do ya think the guy in the vid wasn't told, trained exactly how to do it? I'm guessing he was, cause his brother did the same thing for me in the surf...(my results were not as impressive) lol. But, it's not like the guy stepped onto a ski for the first time either.....he's been riding different types of ski's for a long time.

I don't remember an uproar when Berkey flipped in the surf.....having only been in the ocean a few times....does surf get a pass? If so, why? Maybe because you don't need a big motor?

Do you see how rediculous this all is?

If you compete.....You need the goods. It's that simple.

If you ride for the thrill, the enjoyment, the rush.......then you spend what you can, enjoy the boat you've got, beef it up here and there, try like hell...and yes, it might even make you a better rider. But you might not pull off a FWBF.

But don't worry, (it's lost it's prestige anyway).

what I took away from the OP was that now instead of the FW backflip being something that had to be practiced for quite a long time. and took even longer to master. Now you simply have to have enough money and it is within the grasp of nearly anyone. so instead of this move being something to be proud of, a real acheivement that was only thru a lot of hard work and persistence its now simply a matter of money.

For me when anyone can do it its not really a challenge. even though its still difficult to do, now it has lost its luster. the secret is out. this is all you need and you too can fw backie.

I will still respect the effort but I will give way more respect to the guy with a modded stock hull and hopped up 701 with a B-pipe. If thats you- I bow to your greatness.

have i read the entire thread? no, but i agree with the op. watching flat water bf's get old. but watching a huge slash or re-entry doesnt ever get old. as far as flat water, i would much rather watch anything but a back flip. after seeing someone do 1,000 in a row i was threw. how many barrel rolls can you do in a row?

Where do you ride?
A huge slash re-entry rarely happens on flat water!

Give up the spot dude!!

I have respect for ya Shanes. You'll go plate to plate soon for sure. Once I get mine back together (again) I'm hoping to at least nose one in off a v wake. Got lucky and met a few guys that ski and have boats! So stoked. Keep us posted on your backie progress.

The backflip may have lost some of its praise, but it's not the backy that makes a rider talented. It's the flow he has on the water and that takes skill. A backy is cool, but it's much more impressive to watch a guy like Eric Malone or Jason Stoyer ride, because they have years of experience and it clearly shows even when they are just goofing around. Money can't buy that.

To me, the high powered engines give an advantage just like the foam pit does in FMX. Both are are really cool and only rich guys can afford them. But do you think Travis Pastrana is so talented because he hit foam pits all day?

I think these high powered engines are awesome because they offer endless possibilities for new tricks.

I think about half the posters in this thread have not bothered to read the original thread and actually read and understand the first post in this thread.

its being turned into a bash on money. its not about that, its about being disappointed that for a price you can fwbf. his own personal disappointment. not that the motor or the ski or the rider whatever. just a statement about his feelings.

Mike- I recongnize and respect your skill. but you are still a wussie cause you will only ride IF and WHEN there are perfect waves. its good seeing once a year. ( happens to be about how much I ride too) lol
