The Black Pearl

Recently purchased my first ski, 2005 super jet. Brought her home a couple weeks ago, basically bone stock well actually completely stock besides the ride plate. After extensive research on the X I finally decided the direction I wanted to go. Mainly going to keep it stock just clean everything up with some steering mods, random aftermarket touches, paint top and bottom, intake grate, turf, and the nose needs a little glassin. Heres a few pics of the tear down this weekend and the hiccup I ran into.

I like to chase all the threads in the hull with a tap and blow them out with compressed air. I use thread sealer and anti-seize.

You can use anti-seize or thread locker. Either will create that corrosion barrier. Even silicone will work. Even antiseize leaves a gunk that should be cleaned. It's w/e product you like the best. I use antiseize for most everything, but locktite blue on a few things rarely.

Make sure if you chase threads with quality tools. I tried to chase threads with a harbor freight tap. Yeah, don't do that. It ate part of the threads. The taps are shallower than the OEM threads. Apperently they can't be bothered to ensure their pitches are standard. Well, it's not the pitch that is the issue. The pitch is correct. It cut the edge of the thread off.

Thanks for the info much appreciated, I figured it was factory lock tight that made it snap there was a bunch of faded yellowish red stuff around the bolts.

Sanding and fairing tonight trying to get rid of some of these deeper scratches before painting

Christmas in July!! Thanks @JetManiac for the care package! Didn’t get as much done as I wanted to this weekend. Going to try and hit it hard this coming weekend.

Well took me a little longer to paint the bottom than I thought! Apparently the house needed two puppies haha. And I just realized today I totally forgot to take a picture while it was still upside down. But here are the sides and the nose. Could be better but for my first time painting a ski and my first time doing the roll and tip method it ain’t bad.

Also laid some glass today there was a small crack in the hull on the side so just for peace of mind I cut in a piece of 1708 and as for the front there was some damage not all the way through the hull but again for peace of mind I slapped a piece up there. In hind sight I should’ve just reinforced the nose and both sides of the hull but I just want to get this thing on the water I’ll get to it someday I’m sure, no plans for surf and still too green for freestyle but the day will come. 2E1473A4-7E5D-495A-924B-5CF4C65808BD.jpeg

marine grade does not have silver or copper, it is non metallic and contains no additives. the copper in regular anti seize will corrode with aluminum and stainless when salt water is introduced. looking at the msds sheet on both marine grade antiseize and regular antiseize is that the marine grade does not have a graphite additive where the regular does.

Well boys between moving getting two dogs and the scamdemic finding time to do anything was rough but here we are

Paint and turf done. Hard to see the actual color but there’s some red pearl in there.
