Talk about bad cooling problems!!!

So today we finally got some good surf on my coast so I thought I'd go out and take advantage of it. Unfortunely I had a few cooling issues.

On my way to the beach today the radiator in my jeep took a crap on me. Luckily I was near a publix and I was able to come up with some radiator fluid to save my day of riding.:Banane01:

Unfortunately my cooling issues didn't stop there. While we were riding today the cooling line from my cylinder to headpipe popped off. I guess the water hose I had used was not good enough. The hose was rated to 150F, but I guess that wasn't enough. I'm guessing that the hose that popped off had become very soft which caused it to pop off.:banghead:

With no water going to the pipe this then caused the pipe to get super hot which melted the hose going to the stinger. :banghead:

The worst part about it was that a friend of mine was riding the ski and wasn't familiar with my bilge switch so the bilge was not on. This caused the ski to almost sink and some water ingestion to occur.

Now all of my once very firm hoses are very soft and melted around the fittings.

Does this sound right. Should hose that is rated to 150F melt that easily or do I have some sort of other cooling problem?

Anyways I am running dual cooling and this is how I have it routed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks:biggthumpup:

I use ultimate crappy water cooling lines and they hold up, i think they are just a generic black rubber hose thats shinny:Banane01: . I never use those clear braided ones though....those absolutely do pop off when they get hot

friends don't let noobs ride their skis.

sorry had to do it. that sucks.

switch to different hoses then.

The guy definitely wasn't a noob. He knows far more than I do. He just thought my bilge was on.

I plan on switching to different hoses, but I want to make sure I don't have any other problems. I though I might have a small cloggage, but I'm going to backflush the system throroughly when I switch out the hoses.

The weird thing is that a friend of mine has similar hose (the clear water hose with braided reinforcement) on his 6mil ADA Stroker and he has never had a problem with it.

I'm guessing I had some other problem or his hose was just a better hose.

I ended up buying the same hose he has on his ski from Lowes. It is the clear stuff with white braids to it. It's similar to the hose I was running, but I guess it is better quality.

So I right now I am trying to decide between the goodyear black hose and the braided hose from Lowes. I prefer using the clear braided hose so I can look for clogs, but if it isn't going to hold up then I dont want to waste my time with it.

Sorry to hear about your cooling issues. I don't know if I would trust that hose? I use a clear blue hose, but I can't remenber what it is called. Maybe someone knows what this hose is?

From the looks of your hose it seems like my hose is thicker. I can't tell much from the picture, but most clear water hose I have seen is not as thick and reinforced as the hose I was running.

Maybe your hose just has a higher quality of plastic or silicon. :dunno:

Yeah, I think this is fuel line hose and I was told it is the best to use. It was on the ski when I got it. I would just keep a eye on whatever you decide to use.

Was the water warm out there today?

If you call high 60's/low 70's warm. I think it's freazing, but there are a lot of people that would love water temps like that right now.

Run your line out of your head to the BOTTOM of your pipe then out the top to the stinger. That way, the pipe remains filled with water and subsequently remains cooled.

I really don't think your hose is the issue. I have even successfully used soft-walled clear, not braided hose held onto the barbs with zip ties and it held fine in summer NJ waters.

Rather i would check to see if you have a restriction in your inlet lines that may be causing your temps to be too high. One time I used 1211 on the elbows that go into the bottom of the manifold. I used too much and it clogged the passage and kept water from getting through.

How does the temp of the pisser water feel? Is it too hot?

With the temps we've been having in Southwest L lately, the water has cooled quite a bit.

I thought about doing that, but I was advised by Art out at Jetworks not to do that and Factory Pipe said the same thing.

Two days ago the pipe wasn't even running hot enough. I couldn't even get the water to sizzle on it. It didn't even feel that hot.

I did run it for a longer period of time today though.

Either way I don't think it would have mattered whether I had the line to the bottom of the headpipe or not.

I was also thinking the same thing and Charles said exactly what you said.

I'm thinking that maybe I had a clog in my line that caused the water to back up and get really hot softening the hose and with the built up pressure the hose easily popped off. With no water going to the pipe this then caused the rest of the hoses to melt.

Thats my theory.

When I opened up my jetworks restrictors to backflush the system there was a small shell in one of the restrictors. It didn't look like it was enough to clog the system, but it might have been enough to restrict it and heat up the hoses.
