Tablets

Being a PC guy, the ipad system was totally foreign, to me. My Galaxy tablet is much more logical, but wish it was moto app compatible. (maybe 8.4 does?)
Battery life is not terrific.

I am not a fan of the power to price to durability on a single one I have seen. Gimicky to me unless you need one. I have some very nice Asus ones here in my basement that are headed to the land fill.

I have a 1st Gen Kindle Fire. Does not search the web very well. Ok for coming on here. FB use to be ok but something has happened and when you go on FB it has a weird interface now. almost like a threaded mode. something is not jiving. It is fine for reading books. I do alot of that. But just wanting something that is more user friendly. Dont need one. just would like one. Rarely do I use our laptop now. do not need a keyboard....... Also, I dont get into streaming movies.

Say what you want about apple but I love my 32G ipad mini. I use it mainly for movies during the day and then playing a few rounds of solitaire to put me to sleep. I picked it up 2 years ago and I use it daily for an average of at least 3 hours. Battery life is still 2 to 3 days with average use and will run long enough to play at least 4 movies back to back and still have enough for some solitaire.

For movies, I have multiple options.
1) I have my entire movie collection converted into MP4 and can fit up to 25 movies on my 32GB device.
2) I bought an HDMI adapter for it so I plug it right into my garage TV, hotel TV's and even my wife's new Honda.
3) Before I got the HDMI adapter, I ran an app called Plex that streamed my entire movie collection through my Chromecast device from my media server.
4) I use the ipad to interface the Chromecast device wherever I plug it in.
5) Stream Netflix thru Chromecast or the ipad connected via HDMI.

Dell Venue 8 Pro. $200-$250 for a tablet that has full version of Windows 8.1. Also includes full version of microsoft Office. Nothing compares in my opinion. Don't want office? Sell the license for $50+

I've owned a couple iPad 3's, a Samsung 10.1 2014, and a Samsung Tab S 10.5, plus two Kindle Fire tablets. The Kindles are for the kids. Cheap, durable, great for games and movies.
I personally don't like the Kindles myself, but it's great for the kids. The iPads are great in that they just work. Very few crashes, apps work for the most part. Expensive, though.
My favorite is the Samsung Tab S. Super light, super thin (better than the best iPad, I believe), snappy fast, and quite a bit cheaper than another iPad.
I love tablets. Awesome for reading poop at night before bed, while watching TV, for watching movies or youtube here and there on the side, as an eBook for all sorts of stuff, as a reader for academic papers and dissertations. Simply awesome.

I can now also use it for remote play on my PlayStation 4. (Basically: While the PS4 is not being used - say someone watches a movie - I can stream gameplay video to the tablet and stream controls back. I can play PS4 GTAV on my tablet while watching a movie. How f'n awesome is that?
On top of that, the tablet (or phone) can be used as a secondary display to the PS4. Pretty awesome in itself.

It's not a desktop or even laptop. Don't think you'll be doing the same stuff on a tablet. Don't bother getting a keyboard for it or Office or whatnot. You won't be typing up docs or spreadsheets on a tablet if you have a choice.

What about searching on Google or trying to go to specific websites. It just hangs up. Done this since day one. Figured it was just a glitch with it being a first generation Fire.

Ahg that should have been returned immediately. I don't know why it has always done that for you but when I try something and it doesn't do exactly as it should it goes back in the box and back to the store and never even makes it to a customers hands. We are being sold SO much underpowered fragile garbage these days. I mean stuff that has HIGH failure rates and lack of updates/support/etc....

Caveat emptor is worse now that it has ever been IMO. Sooooooo much crap that has a definite life span IF it even makes it that far as a useful product.

It is just slow. I bought it for reading and FB/XH2O. Don't Google much anymore with it. Use my S5 Active mainly now for just about everything. Even wrote the Wasteland Tribute Article on it. But just "wanting" a new tablet.

Ever since I got my Note 3, much less use of Samsung tablet. The phone is easier to hold and with a 5.7 inch HD screen it's all I need for viewing most of the time.

I look forward to having a smart phone some day :)

For the first time in 10 years at least....mostly because of the Note 3!

I just picked up the Samsung 8" at costco for 180$. Buy one and use it for a couple months. Costco gives you 90 days to return it if you don't like it.
