Hello everyone, I am looking at hopefully picking up an 05 SXR. The guy I am (hopefully) buying it from got the head miled and installed it backwards. He said the Kawasaki shop told him to do this for better performance.

Has anyone done this before? Is this true? Should I put the head on right?

What other common problems should I look out for when buying an SXR?

Its said to help the water stay in longer and not short cycle from coming in the cyl to right out the head. So by flipping it the head pissers are on the other side.

When you buy a new ADA head, they tell you to install the head to where the pissers are on the carb side of the motor, which is oppisite from stock. So I would say you are in good shape.

From art at Jetworks . Oem heads use oem head gaskets which are marked with up and ex on them. Reason are the holes drilled in them make the water flow to the carb side first into the head and then out the pissers.

All aftermarket heads have I rings so the water is free flowing . Pissers on carb side is good . Pissers on ex bad bc water will not want to circulate to the carb side.

Him...should I flip my R&D head?

I would check the compression...thats about it, the hulls are pretty bulletproof....shouldn't have to refoam like on most used superjets.

You would never have to re-foam an SXR. They have closed cell foam which can NOT hold water, just like the foam under the gas tank up front.

In regards to flipping the head, it is a must in my opinion.
