Dan, 23 ft-lbs is not enough on the (6)10mm girdled studs! If you start to make any big horsepower yours WILL come loose too! I USE no less that 36 ft-lbs up to 40 ft-lbs for all out competition motors (high compression).

P.S. I've used Marv's (ADA/ Brooks is his son) heads for about 12 years, and I have been through it all with them on their stud breaking and coming loose problems. On my early ADA headed race motors I had to spotface mill about 3/8 in off my ada heads so I could run ARP grade8 hardened block studs (they would rust, but so what when you needed to win races) for a Toyota motor to keep my race 5mm strokers in my blasters together.

Thats really good to know. Thanks for the heads up on that Chuckie.

What would you torque the actual head bolts that go into the cylinder to?

Thanks

22 ft-lbs on the 8mm bolts is perfect. I have used as much as 25, but don't need to as the Yamaha head bolts are very good quality and are not stainless (stainless is weaker) and hold torque very well.
