Ankle slappers may be big enough for me. I was checking out Tigbee Island (spelling?) for something different. Never been there. Supposed to be a good area to ocean kayak too.

Just got back from S.C. The laws are that you Must stay 100 Yards from the beach from like may to august something. Anyhow you can only launch from the beach and travel straight out before 9:00 AM or after 5:00pm and there are no motorised vehicles aloud on the beach even to launch you MUST use a beach dolly from a public access point that doesn't have stairs. You could go the intercostal but it is a ride through the winding masrh to find the ocean and if you arn't back before low tide you will have a problem getting back in the same way.

I was there for 10 days and the water 50+ yards out was like a bath tub not even a ripple. But they happen to have some storms blown in about the middle of the stay and the waves kicked up pretty good "my first time in the surf also" they were about 8 to 10 feet tall from crest to trough and the bad part was that they were only about 2 or 3 seconds apart there was no room to get up on the ski before the other one crashed over you and between the waves were waves as large as setup wakes....

So with that said I would travel SOUTH I have taken my ski to Myrtle beach 3 times over the last 10 years of vacatioing there and this is the first time I ever seen any waves worth jumping. BUt with it being as rough as it was I will never take it again. I actually don't think we will ever vacation there again just because there is no possibility of finding good waves there.

If there is no other place to go then look for a good lake to ride in on the way there plus the beach is not very flat pushing a ski up a hill to get it back to the truck after riding was a job

dude... if you plan on driving that far, just come down here... there is no substitution for Florida bro... I can show you some awesome Kyaking and skiing spots... FLorida has it all and it's only 6 more hrs from Myrtle Beach... Don't sell yourself short... It's worth the extra few hrs.. trust me.

If I drown in the surf I'm blaming Wahoo. If I break my boat in Daytona I'm blaming yamaslut and yamasaki. :woot: I already have a full face helmet on order. I may put the wife and kid on a plane and meet them somewhere.

you're already smarter than most of the knuckleheads down here.

although a solid knock on their nuggets might actually be of benefit to most of them.

no kiddin'....

actually though, st. aug crew pretty much rolls with helmets ALWAYS......unless the surf non-existant...

i push for them just becausee the day you end up needing it is not going to be because of the water, its going to be due to rider collision..

I've been wearing my whitewater helmet, but it's not full face. I have a nice scar on my chin from hitting the handlebars jumping dirt bikes while I was wearing a full face helmet. At least I didn't bust my mouth or nose. I've had a couple good spills on the SJ jumping cruiser waves. I'm sure salt water feels great in a busted nose too.

O Yea I didn't mention the salt... It sucks you have to have like a 2nd pair of eye lids to help keep the eyes clean. My first dunk I rode for 30 seconds with my eyes closed waiting for the burning to go away. Never did get used to it but it got better after 30 minures or so..

 TO you guys that can handle the salt water in the eyes.

Also after drinking enough salt water dinner won't tast good without salting the crap out of it..

ya know... fresh water messes w/ my eyes more now than salt...

accbr - let us know when ya get here... I'll send ya my number.

funny enough, i never noticd any extra pain from saltwater in a cut..........

the worst time of day is when the sun is super bright and you get the salt water in them......it dries the cornea out and the sun causes muscle spasms, thats why the salt hurts so bad after time......

sunglasses help tremendously..

Saltwater bothers my eyes for the first 10 minutes then I get used to it.

I'll let you guys know if I come down there. I'm looking at some places to stay. You can come out and watch a surf newbie. I promise I'll at least TRY a back flip.

Okay. We're going to North Myrtle beach. I know most of you said Florida, but we're gonna try S.C. Sounds like you have to launch from the beach there, so I'll have to make a beach cart. Any places around there that are better for surf?? Anybody wanna watch a surf newbie?

Salt Water, you guys need to check out the Salt Water in the Gulf of Mexico, especially, Orange Beach through Panama City Beach, I swear the salt water content is much stronger there than Myrtle Beach, Daytona or Galveston..........

Should I even bother taking the SJ? I've seen the Myrtle Beach pics posted on here, and it looks pretty good.

It would be more fun here riding w/ us though... :Banane01: :Banane01: :Banane01:
