Super Jet Superjet pump noise

I have a 91 superjet 650 that I installed a new wear ring housing and new impeller. There is a weird noise coming from the pump. When I push down on the front of the motor the noise goes away. The previous owner had motor mounts replaced. The rear motor mounts each have 1 thick shim, the front right has a thick shim and a thin one and the front left has 2 thick shins. Should I take take out the extra shins to see if they would stop the issue? The noise sounds like the pump is shaking good. But like I stated when I put some pressure on the front of the motor the noise goes away.

It's common for the impeller to contact the liner when new, might this be the sound you hear? If so, it will go away as the liner/impeller wears.

With all the doubt you have, I say start from scratch and align the pump and engine again.

Did ya peek at the pump bearings while you had the pump out?

How's the midshaft? Tight and smooth?

Is anything down around the couplers rubbing on them?

I think checking the alignment is important here. I definitely wouldn't just remove the shims without confirming that's what it needs.

Are there rub marks on the housing from the impeller?

These two videos will help get you started. There are also jigs for aligning the pump side. This just covers the engine.

I actually found those videos and went to work on the ski and it was great help. The guy before me had the shims completely wrong. The couplers were not even like the one in the video so I with a few attempts I was siccessfully able to align the motor correctly. The noise has vanished!

I'd be curious how off the pump alignment is. just doing the engine is skipping half the process of a proper alignment. I can't help but pull a ski that's new to me apart and find/fix all the little things. I ride surf mostly so it's important to know every nut and bolt.

Only with an a/m housing with plastic liner, OEM wear ring never touches unless failing.

I also had to realign the pump as well. I shoulda said that too. I too ride in the ocean out of Sea Isle City, NJ
