Superjet Balance

Hi everyone,

I have a round nose Superjet. When it sits in the water it leans over to one side, like it isn't balanced right. It also is easier to turn left than right, right feels far less stable.

Is this a common problem, and how do you guys balance your skis? I was planning to balance it out with some lead ballast, does this seem like the right thing to do?

yeah you dont wanna add weight.And it also leans to that side while its sitting because the exhaust tube fills up with water.

and the battery is on that side.

You could replace the battery with a lighter one and the ski will level out.

Don't sweat the lean. It does not affect your turning (maybe it does stock, not sure). Look into doing the steering/throw mods for a lot more control of your turns. Tried a quick search and couldn't find any writeups but they're out there...

A set of sponsons will help this problem without having to remove or add weight.

The ski is more apt to roll left because of the inertia generated by the engine's rotating direction. It's the same thing that makes single cylinder dirtbikes want to push through corners. Perhaps it feels harder and more unstable to turn right because you are having to fight the motor's inertia. It could just be that you are better at balancing for a left hand turn.



Mine used to list to the left when sitting still.... drypipe > battery

I can turn right better then left. I am a Lefty though. I can be smashin in a straight line an fall off. My ballance sucks. My girlfriend turns left better than right. She is a Lefty too. So I dont have a clue why some people feel more comfortable turning one way or the other. I dont think the listing has anything to do with it. :icon16:

There is nothing wrong with your Ski. All Super Jets lean to the right when sitting in the water with the engine off. As already mentioned this is because the exhaust pipe fills with water making it less boyant on the right side. When you start the engine the water is blown out the exhaust and the ski is in balance.

It also is easier to turn left than right, right feels far less stable.

This problem has nothing to do with your Ski. I'm going to bet that you are a beginner and you ride regular foot (Left foot forward, right foot back) In regular stance it is easier to turn Left than Right. Be patient, the more you ride you will master turning right and soon it will feel natural to you.

227 I have been riding for about 4 months, so yeah I'm a beginenr. Only reason I thought something may be up is someone else rode my ski and also thought it was harder to turn right.. It just feels more balanced when its turning left... I didn't notice it at first but as I've been getting better I've started to.

Guess I'll just keep practising.

I'm going to bet that you are a beginner and you ride regular foot (Left foot forward, right foot back) In regular stance it is easier to turn Left than Right. Be patient, the more you ride you will master turning right and soon it will feel natural to you.

This is correct. NOT ALL SJ's LEAN TO THE BATTERY SIDE.

The OEM exhaust weighs a ton, when you put a B-pipe on the ski you take some weight from that side and the ski leans to the right.

A small battery corrects the problem.... and is a good weigh to drop up to 11lbs from the nose of the ski.

Put your bars perfectly straight, then check out the nozzle, is it straight too? If not turn the adjusting nut at the end of the steering cable by your turnplate.

Just saw another thread recently about the superjet leaning to the right.But found this one.

l recently put an 08 sj back together for another member on here.The ski has new sponsons,a new groupk 845 motor,bpipe,and an big odessey battery.Sitting in the water it lays over to the right (ok,that's normal) but when you take off it wants to stay leaned over just a bit.And the owner has commented to me that it is a small problem.l have looked that ski over inside and out,but cannot find anything other than the above mentioned posts that would explain why.Batt comes to mind,water in the exhaust too.He is running a stock waterbox and also has a T for the side exhaust.

This is the puzzler for today! Please give me your opinion and comments.lt would be much appreciated.

I find it much easier to power slide to the right but to stay hooked and carve hard to the left. Its weird, but going right feels more comfortable as long as i don't mind breaking loose a bit.
