stuck impeller

I've tried heat (propane torch)

I've tried oil

I've tried a 3' cheater

I've tried a hammer on the cheater

yes, I'm turning it the correct direction

any other suggestions for getting off a stuck stainless impeller before I take a saw or cutting wheel to it?

acetalene torch , for more heat in a shorter time , you want the prop to expand before the shaft does , this usually works for me , propane is just used to start my grill !

Try heating the shaft just in front of the impeller. This will cause the shaft to expand against the impeller threads. Once it is good and hot turn the pump so that the shaft is verticle and vein down. Touch parafin wax to the shaft just in front of the impeller. It will melt and run down. As the shaft cools the wax will penetrate between the threads and act as a lubricant to assist removal of the impeller. Good luck, if it isn't galled it should come off.

BTW, is this the one you put on at Texoma on the tailgate of my truck?

NO - different pump that I've already drilled & tapped for dual cooling.

I was trying to get it pre-done so that I can install it quickly tomorrow when my b-pipe arrives. If I can't get it off, I'll have to remove the pump that is in my ski now, completely disassemble it, drill & tap, reassemble, and reinstall.

what a PITA.

do you think Home Depot or Lowes sells paraffin? I tried heating the impeller with the pump up like that and using honing oil as a penetrant.

weld tabs? what does that do - give better leverage than just an impeller tool?

I don't need this prop, so I'd just as soon cut it off than pay shipping twice to send to someone.

I don't know if it was the wax - but I needed more leverage on the shaft end.

So I secured the shaft holder in my vise and parked the truck on it.

that did the trick - along with the long cheater bar.

Thats what I am talking about true redneck engineering at its finest.:arms:

this may sound crazy but I was in the same position as you not too long ago I tried tightening it just a bit then went to loosen it and it came right off.
