Stroker? Big Bore? Looking for power starting from scratch.

either of those motors you listed would be good for less than 2k,I have 2 diff 5 mill motors, one is 82 mill round top the other is a 85 mill flat top and it stomps all over the smaller 82. the 82 is runnin tl with more timing as well ported by someone at greater while tj was there. The 85 was ported by lamey and runs a enhancer.transfer volume is less but she kills.
id try and ge the transfer and exh duration #s on both those motors and choose with at least that info

I'm confused to how 83mm would hit harder then a 85mm if there both stroked.... I realize it's becuase of transfer ports but it just don't make sense. The first motor I'm looking At looks real good and people have said it makes good power...

You need to understand that on a watercraft, net power equals net thrust. This happens at high rpm. Making an engine bigger wont give the same seat of the pants boost that it does for something on wheels.

TJ never worked for Greater. He went straight from Riva to his own deal. Yours was probably done by Gary Pominowski. He was in charge of Greater's motor department.

I wondered how long that would take.

Didn't Gary use to do Wammers port work also?

Buddy of mine had a 61x Bigbore that Gary ported. Good motor setup.

Yes, Gary did good work. A buddy of mine had him set up an old R&D race cylinder for his SJ (basically an early lamey) and it was a very good motor.

I was quoting Dee on that, since he had it built I fig he knew what he was talking about,he might have said he had tj work on it somewhere else? I havnt seen the underside of this cylinder yet but the case porting isnt very impressive at all. It hits a little harder than a big bore so im happy with it for what I use it for

If you are talking about the one you got from Dee, that motor was built by Gary Lamb. He used to work under the Riva/Team Yamaha Support Team.

I'd give Jetworks a good look. Great prices, great service, awesome motors.
And they're close to you.

Thanks guys! i learned so much just from this thread!!
i landed up deciding on 5mm stroker 85mm big bore flattop motor with a wammer head running 200psi ported by DASA. sjetrider knows the motor, he was furtunate enough to ride it. i sure hope it does the trick :)
Now i just need some carbs, what do you all know about SRE 46s? are these good freestyle carbs? and the cases are not epoxied but i was told it is ok to run with a 5mm and he insure there not trenched

Have not heard that name in years!

He's still around. Doesn't do much with skis anymore, but he is building a couple x2s for surf riding. He was at Wavedazes last year and got the bug, then went to Daytona. Gary is a good dude and a ton of fun to hang out with.

im sure you will be happy with that motor, thats about the same setup I run,its a ton of fun to ride,I use dual fs 48s with a enhanser &rad fw,Im prolly gonna throw a advent or epic on it with 31 deg of timing this yr.

scottie..that sounds a little familiar, dee was a speed talker, anyway this lamb 62t 82 mill motor even with tl is lacking alot on the 61x lamey ported 85 mill motor. both run same intake, carbs, reeds as well

yeah ill be running somekind of 46s with a type-9 msd enhanser with tbm flywheel and tbm couplers in a WDK rev prepreg hull. Im hopin this will get me around on some flatwater flips.... pretty sure it will, i was almost nosin them in with a stock port 701 so it should.
