Strength and Weight of RRP

I have been looking at the adjustable RRP and it looks like a nice set up. However, I have heard that although they are strong they weight 14-15lbs and are almost 800 bucks w/o a handlepole pad. Any review on this set up or others?

Here is my experience:

*The last AC pole I had was on my squarenose and was about 11 pounds. Not that bad but it they ding up easily. (fill them w/ foam and it makes them more resistant to dings)
*I am not a big fan of the UMI poles b/c of all the welds.
*XFT pole I felt had flex to it. Really light (6lbs and hollow) and nice looking but you could sit there and twist the bars and it would give 1/4 in each way. Has a life time warrenty so if you ever do break it you get a free replacement.
*Stock RN pole is really not bad at all. Cheap, durable and can put up with quite a bit of abuse before breaking. Relativly light as well.
*I am also interested in the WD pole (shocker). Light and a combo of billit and extruded aluminum. No cast aluminum parts so should not have breakage issues. Thin and changable skins.

What are the ends of the of the RRP made out of? Is that billit or cast?

YOu forgot the AMW pole from Pat Bogart.

Awsome pole thin and average weight. Dosent have a written life time warranty but everyone that has a issue has had it resolved usually with a new pole.

AMW pole from Pat Bogart.

Review: awsome pole.

Without question, the best out there.
I just bought my 4th one.

It's right in the middle of weight (about 10.5 lbs), it's strong, it's slim, it has dual breather tubes, it has the steering cable WAY outside for better geometry with the turnplate, and the chinpad support is built in.

And Patrick has phenomenal customer service. :cheer:

The RRP pole is a nice piece but its a tank. The tubes are VERY light but the head where the turn-plate goes feels like a lead weight. I would rather have a 15lbs pole that the weight is distributed across its entire length then to have most of the weight at the head

The adjustability is a great thing but honestly, once you set it up, how many are going to keep adjusting it. And if you do keep adjusting it you risk the chance of crimping the thin gauge tubes and having it work loose (reason why they use the long threaded rod - liability :skull2:).

I ended up going with the X-Metal pole (-2").

I love my Rick Roy Pole,I got the dual air tube base tube, total set me back 1,100.00 . I believe they put the rod on the rear just in case someone forgets to tighten properly that nuts which clamps on the tubes, ooch!!!

It felt like a tank and at the World Finals I discovered that they made a spring tensioner that bolts to the bottom of the RRP base so you can use a spring if you are using the two air intake tubes. The spring must be a superjet spring to work, bad part is that I had to remove the pole and base to get the block drilled and screwed on the underside, still love the pole.

That is my assesment of it as well. I have been on 3 skis with the RRP pole. I felt it was bulky and did not feel very balanced unless it was used in conjunction w/ a pole spring.

If you remember my RRP pole from down in PA that weekend, it is very top heavy. I bought the Blowsion HD spring for it and even Malone commented that he wanted to get one for his and he keeps his hand pole very tight. Without a spring, it would be too much top weight. Problem is, if I keep tightening my bolt, my stock plate will crack sooner or later. I have heard to put a sleeve in there, but I still have to look at it, to check the size.

Here are pics of the different poles for reference:

1) UMI (don't know the weight???)
2) XFT Carbon (6-7lbs)
3) X-metal (about 10-11 lbs)
4) X-metal
5) RRP (about 14-15 lbs)

I have heard allot of guys say that. Malone had his pretty nicly set up with the tight bolts. I did not notice the weight as much. It did feela little top heavy when I rode your ski, but the spring should really help. My AC pole was teh same way until I got a spring.
