stock rail caps with footholds and re-turf

I am putting footholds in my '08 superjet. I picked up a roll of black diamond turf and was planning on re-using the stock black rail caps and turfing below them and in the tray.

I have the footholds all glassed in and am ready to turf at this point.

What are you guys using to re-glue the stock rail caps back down?? I tried contact cement same as for turf but it didn't seem to stick very well to the rubber..... anyone have any recommendations? I was thinking maybe devcon or some sort of epoxy brushed on and then using c-clamps and with a flat board or something to hold them in place while the epoxy sets up.

Any input welcome. I am not considering ditching the rail caps at this point because I really hate turfing the rails - been there done that on my 96.

Most people just ditch the plastic rails and turf the bond line. If you don't want to ditch the stock rails then why aren't you just screwing them back in place?

Let me clarify - I'm talking about the caps on the tray. These are the soft rubber caps that are glued down where you're elbows would go when climbing aboard. I am also keeping the (bondline) rail caps but I got black rivets from mccmaster carr to replace the stock screws that always back out...

I will be doing this in a few days, unless I get more confident in my turfing skills. I am pretty sure Yamaha uses super glue. Seems I remember someone using the "Gel" type with good results.

mine had a rubbery glue. Almost like silicon. Its going to look better if you wrap your turf all the way around though. Just stick some padding up there and turf over it. Its very nice.

I'm going to have to agree with everyone and say you should just wrap your caps with turf. Looks way cleaner. If your set on the caps and can't find any glue that will keep the stockers on, I have a set of aftermarket caps that can just be siliconed on. They look nice and are easy to attach ( just silicone on) but they are not soft like the stockers.

Did you ever get the stock rail caps back on?? I'm in the same boat. I want to glue mine on, but I want to be able to GET THEM OFF at some point. I'm thinking Yamaha probably uses Super Glue as well.

Butti is doing the same to my ski. I think it looks awesome. However, we've not yet glued the caps on. I'm not sure what we decided to use, but I'll let you know if it works!
