Super Jet Starting out? Shin tore up?

I'm curious? When I start out on my sj I am on my left knee and lift my right leg straight to standing position and then stand with my left. My problem is my left shin and knee are getting tore up, rubbed raw. It's much worse if I ride more than one in a week. I weigh about 250 and I'm sure this doesn't help, but is there something I could do different? I also deadlift in the gym every week and that doesn't help, but I think I've made adjustments there. Thx.

stand up quicker i weigh about 280 and start with my right knee all the way in the tray and get goin fast.. what type of mat do you have, i had a :):):):)ty one where it tore up both my knees, how far up do you put your knee when starting off maybe it is rubbing on the end of the tray

If your turf is really gnarly and sandpapery it is time to replace. Other than that try not to be kneeling as much or wear some water skiing spray socks.

My turf is fairy new and it's pretty grippy. Hydro turf diamond pattern. I have footholds so that narrows it up a bit. My knee isn't all the way forward, I'd say 3/4 of the way up. I think I stand up fairly quick but maybe I need to do it quicker. I think I stand right before I plane. So if you start with your knee all the way forward, is your ski extremely nose up?

i had a make-shift mat that really tore my knees up cause i didn't have any grip to pull up, but my nose starts in the air pointed to the sky then just go WFO and stand up at the same time, since i'm so big my knee is all the way forward while i'm leaning all the way forward with my chest up against the pole with my left trailing then when i get enough momentum go for it all i got it down to a science now ha

2 things will happen.... 1) your skin will toughen up after time and it won't be an issue, or 2) you'll learn better technique and get up quicker.

I'm a little bigger than you and don't need to use a knee all that often, one foot in the tray with the other back as a rudder for balance. Gas and stand up. Pole length also plays a factor in ease of quick takeoffs.

Edit: but if it's that much of an issue you can go to a sporting goods store and buy a legging like under armor, etc. In the beginning when learning and got turf rosies I used a sleeve from an old L/S tshirt.

Good to know there's some bigger guys riding. My normal body weight is around 265. Had my shoulder scoped and dropped down to 240 due to not gym for 3 months. Now I'm slowly gaining it back. I'll try the no knee thing. I appreciate all the tips.

I'm assuming you dorks are deep water boarding. If you're not, then stand in the tray, gas it, and go.

If you are running out a kneeling start from the shore then I will make fun of you when I see you.

Keep up the good work.
