Super Jet Starter removal with B pipe?

Is it enough to remove the chamber or the head pipe needs to be taken put as well? (Trying to figure out if i need to get the gasket before tackling the job).

I assume the manifold can be left (i hate to deal with those 8 screws....)

Just did one, unhooked the chamber From
Both ends and slid it slightly forward and up at the back, proped it up

Get the starter out, still a pain to rotate the starter correclty to come out.. going back together with head pipe on it was hard to align the starter and get a bolt in one handed so
I took the head pipe off.... id pull the head pipe too next time

Im not sure if i would completely remove the motor, but i think that removing the four engine mount bolts and the chamber would allow to move the engine to have better clearance to work on the starter.

I have done it without taking anything off but its not easy and you need to know your way around by feel cause you cant see much, but yes if you take your chamber off and then tip the engine on its side that is easiest. Putting a chamber back in is always a bit of a curse job to tho

Call me crazy but I almost think it's less work to just pull the motor and replace the starter on the bench. Good time to inspect everything else for anything amiss.

Plus just a good time to check everything out....almost guaranteed to find something else!!

I would have fiddled with trying to remove the starter for 30 minutes while it was still in the ski, get pissed. Go inside and get a beer and then come back out and remove the entire engine.

This. Exactly. The older I get the more I go after the "right way" instead of the "quick way" to do stuff like this.

It takes less than 10 minutes to remove an engine. Many look at it as a major feet. Its 6 bolts plus disconnecting waterlines and battery cables.
A buddy use to have 2 superjets. 1 with a built motor. He could never decide which hull he wanted the motors in. So we swapped all the time. We got down to about 25 minutes to do complete motor swaps. We would both pull motors out at the same time and swap over and start connecting everything up. Next starter I do will be with motor pulled.

Yeah. Helped KMAC at World Finals 2 years ago when his 1100 went out in his Trinity during practice. Mad dash motor swap. Never as fast as inside your shop!!!!!!

I'm thinking about this. A purpose built race hull and a purpose built surf hull. Duplicate everything except motor / electronics that gets swapped. Identical except maybe propped differently if it doesn't change my tuning.
