Standardized surf safety signals.

Anyone know if there are standardized hand signals for freeriding surf? We are trying to implement this into our next ocean freeride for safety. Also we are doing 2 large beach flags to let riders know if there is a problem, green is "all ok", waving green is "rally and return to beach", red is "trouble, stay alert rider broke down or swimming", waving red flag "injury or emergency". I also want to implement a basic riders meeting before heading out to talk about general safety, air horns and first aid kit should also be handy as well as a dedicated lookout on shore at all times. The Washington coast can be really nasty, and one cannot be too safe. Crab

That about sums it up Saki. That seems to cover all the bases. What about the posers with a dead ski and no tow rope? What's the "I'm a dumbass and don't carry a tow rope" signal?

1) when i swallow too much water I signal to a friend by dry heaving for about 5 minutes

2) When I'm low on gas I let the other person know by kneeling in the tray and pumping the primer

3) and lastly when Jerry wipes out really bad I ride up and take off my helmet so he can see how hard I'm laughing

Our main signal is,.....

If you see someone just floating in the water behind their ski don't jump in next to them. There's usually a warm spot right there.

First thing they taught us as Surf Life Guards was to hold your arm straight up when you get in trouble. Don't wave as that could be mistaken for someone waving at a friend at the beach, hold it straight up.

When it's crowded I kinda hand signal left if I'm doing a left reentry, or vice versa for a right RE.
We were also thinking along the lines of a few signals for tricks, such as "I may do something stupid, perhaps inverted, spot me".

Speak up ,don't kiss azz
I know when snorkeling the distress call IS to wave your arms .
Just the thumbs up after a wipeout is all that's needed really or in Mike's case remove helmet so they can see you laughing
