depends how you ride it!!!!!!!!!!!!! What are you looking to do?

When I first started riding (just around a flat lake) it really worked the muscles in my entire back.
You should probably talk to your doctor...although he/she probably won't even know what a stand-up is!

Dude, i think it would be great for balancing. Your back heals if the muscles are strong up your spine. We all have back problems and you gatta keep excersizing.

I had knee surjury 3 years ago and i took a bad fall practacing a barrell roll and felt some of the same pains at Sebastian. I'm a little more carful and i wear the brace when i ride. A stand up works all your joints and that helps my knee. Like my skateboard feels but heavier.

It's all in how you feel.

My 'bad back' is better than it has ever been, and I think it is due to riding the stand up. However, you should do exercises for both your back and your abs, I'd suggest getting a yoga ball as well.

When you get your standup, replace the stock turf with some hydroturf and get the 1" (25mm) underpadding. When I switched from stock turf to the thick stuff on my Kawi, my lower back, my knees, and my heels immediately benefitted. And I'm an old guy who destroyed his back 25 years ago.

I was having really bad back problems a few years ago.....spasms....couldnt sleep......no pills would kill the pain. Mine was muscle issues though.....not structural. I started doing some back exercises and got back into standup riding and my back problems are almost completely gone now. I noticed a big improvement after spending a couple of months riding. Hopefully the same will work for you.......just start out easy and dont over do it.....and talk to doc ofcourse.

The two things that will mess you up are lifting the ski, and dragging it out into the water. Riding seems to be just good exersize.

my back gets so compressed when i ride. mostly from reentrys and roll attempts.
if you were to nose it in i think your back would be ok but youll be hurting your back everywhere else.

Do it twice?That's DooDoo
dont worry so much about your back..... worry more about the thought that someday that you will die, and if you never rode a standup- your life will have been meaningless....

seriously though... buy a standup... give it about 5 days of riding to get used to (the first time or 2 you will prob think you made a crappy decision getting one... )

You will not regret it.... get a used one that runs good so you can get your money back if you decide it is too rough on you... if you really like it you can build yours up or sell it and get a better one
