Surfriding Stainless bearings for steering any better?

Is there any benefit to running stainless bearings over standard bearings in UMI steering setups? Did they originally come with stainless bearings?

I can buy a sleeve of 10 standard bearings for the price of 2 stainless ones.

The o rings don't last forever! I always make sure that the threads are degreased and install the lock nut with red threadlocker. I get a few years of use out of that and then just change the internals. Hot Products sells a kit cheaply. I would not bother with ss bearings.

for steering i use SS shielded both sides, pretty sure part numbers ending ZZ. Pump just SS with no shield. You can also get plastic shielded as well but none are "sealed"

I just ordered enough to put together 10 kits complete with stainless bearings, o-rings, stainless radial washers and locking collars.

My HX has a UMI steering setup on it. I threw in the Hot Products bearing kit (same as the stand up bearings) and they rusted within a few rides. I keep them lubed up but it really annoys the hell out of me that every time I ride there is black rusty drips on my cylinder head. Ugh...

I would love stainless bearings...

OCD would you consider just selling me the 2 bearings?

just make sure to use good waterproof grease in the bearing cap cause if that ss bearing reacts with the alloy cap you'll never get it out.

how much are the breaings?

$20 shipped snail mail, $24 shipped USPS priority flat rate.

I should have complete rebuild kits available by the end of the week including locking split collars, O-rings and stainless thrust washers. I don't have final pricing in yet but should have the kits available for around $45. Each part will be available seperate as well.
