square v. round

square vrs. round

I have both, the pros of MY round is the top deck is much more rigid and strong. It also takes on ALOT less water than the square.
I have a round nose AC pole on the square nose, so that is no longer an issue, but feels like i am going to rip it off in nose stabs.
My personal opinion, for freestyle/freeride round nose only.
For course riding and or just playing on river the square is better as it seems to be suctioned to the water.
By the time you reinforce a square to be as strong and water tight as a round, you can buy a round nose.

after readi ng the responses so far it seems to me that the only real difference between the 2 seems to be predominantly personal preference......... so again can someone please explain to me why i keep reading posts where people say that it is like throwing money away to mod a square heavily?

as it seems to me that spending money heavily modding a square (which can be gotten much more easily and cheaper) would seem to be money better spent

you can get a cheap square for $500, you can maybe get a cheap round for $2500.

it dosn't cost $2000 more to reinforce a square than to reinforce a round.

1. round hulls are garbage... nothing lioke the stregth of my square. (I saw someone say rounds were stonger HA HA HA HA HA HA.... That was amusing) they require more reinforcing for what I do.

The roundies are a lot stiffer around the hoodseal area. Other than that, it's probably a wash.

lol.... yeah... squares are not perfect, but in comparison the square is a much better bang for the buck. FOR SURF RIDING

I love my round nose, and it's taken a pretty good beating. However, over this past winter, I built a SN for a fraction of the cost it would have taken to build a RN. And that MOFO is a solid ski!!! http://www.x-h2o.com/threads/2816

In all reality... if you want to build a ski, Nick is right, the SN is the best bang for the buck. I paid $20 (yes 20 bucks) for my SN hull last fall.

Yea.....You can find a nice mod sq 61x pipe ext. for $1500, its hard to beat that when you talkin bang for the buck. Round nosers deffinetly look better, but looks are overrated......Its all in how it performs IMO

:27: :27: Be quite guys. Keep talking and there will actually be a demand for squares. I like the affordability factor. I've got a decent surf ski and a backup for less than a decent roundie.

Damn I think this thread has inspired me to build a square. So anyone got a hull in California?

I'm gonna keep my eyes open for one around here and pick it up, this winter will probably be the best time.

I personally prefer the square. When comparing my square directly to a round nose, it feels just a little bit lighter in the water, and looking in the engine compartment I think there is just a little bit room and it is a little bit cleaner. I think the lower pole bracket makes a huge difference in handling as well which also gets another point from me. But all in all, they are the same bottom deck, I think any square could be modded to handle the same as a round and any round can be modded to handle like a square.
BUT
squares look cooler.

Well looks like Winter has just come early. I just found a square nose project

-Square hull with recently done orange paint job, comes with pump, hood, handle pole, drive shaft bearing housing (whatever that thing is called) and gas tank with straps

-701 61x/61x motor rebuilt 2 years ago by protec (but it has never been started since it was rebuilt) comes with electronics, msd enhancer, and single carb

-So far i know it needs, steering system, water box, battery tray, exhaust, plus more...

and guess how much I'm getting it all for... $450. Sounds like a deal to me.

I haven't seen it yet in person, just in pictures. I will be picking it up this week or in a couple weeks when the guy gets back from vacation.
