Square nose upgrade suggestions ?

I have a '90 650 SJ which except for an older pro-tec pipe is all stock.

She runs great and is giving me a real workout (I love it) but she does need some help in the hook up department.

From reading old posts on here it seams that most like the Worx intake grate (WR-201, I believe) and recommend the Concord 13/17 slightly set back for prop duties.
Am I on the right track ?
If I'm wrong, what would be a better choice (please give specifics) ?

It seams that these parts are really popular so used might be a problem that is why I was thinking of biting the bullet and buying new. I would rather send my money to someone who supports this site, so who would you recommend ?

Thank you guys for any advice.:hail:

P.S. I need stronger springs for my handle pole.
If I buy aftermarket ones do I replace both or juts one to get the desired effect ?

What if I just stick some wedges under the bottom perch, would that do anything for me ?

for the spring - check out www.blowsion.com they've got a spring that'll lighten the pole, from what i hear, substantially. its just one spring. no need to buy two

for the hook up. im not too savvy with that stuff. other will chime in soon im sure. what you have listed are what most people use for bottom end gains.

i use a skat-trac 14/18 super slim line and i like it.

brraap....thats so 2002
13/17 cut back might be a bit much for a mostly stock engine, make some calls to scat trac and solos or impros and get some input..........what ever you do a new impellor will make a good differance.

I would think that the Solas "I" prop would be good for that setup.

Should I be looking for a stock Solas "I" or would a tweaked one work better ?
What pitch should I be looking at ??
Might help if I see something on ebay or classifieds.

I don't want to sound ignorant but I don't have any experience with the SJ's so knowing what works and what doesn't is a problem.

a 701, any 701. Pick one up for 600 and sell yours for 600 with the pipe. Best performance mod you can do.

the concord is the impeller you want but 13/17 is too tall.

ive got a 12/15 ( repitched from impros) cutback concord on mine, its a 91 SJ 650 engine, protec pipe, protec head, and msd enhancer.

with a worx intake grate, and a cut stock rideplate.

the impeller works well.

like was said, keep your eyes open for a larger engine as well.
and a cheap aftermarket head, or have some one mill yours for more compression.

there are a couple of guys on the board that will say that you can run a 650 cyl up to 200lbs of compression due to the port timing......

that will really give you some snap, i think the prop you want is like a 11 or 12/15

WOW !! That's what I was looking for.
Straight answers.

As far as the motor goes, I want to keep the one that's there right now as she is a total virgin. I want to retain the stock graphics and keep the outside looking like new. This ski looks like it was in a time capsule so I rather not molest it (I'll save that for a round nose that I want to get).
But that doesn't mean that I don't want it to run better.

Mouthfulloflake, I like what you have done to your ski. Would it be OK if I copied your setup? You know the whole line how imitation is the best form of flattery, or some crap like that.

I think it's time to make some calls.

Thank you Sirs for guiding me in the right direction.:arms:

Copy away, just dont pay much for the protec pipe, it works well, but one that doesnt mount to the head is a stronger setup ( not TOO big of an issue with a 650 though)

get a head, a pipe, remove rev limiter and advance timing, or get an msd enahcer.

and a LOW pitched concord impeller cut back.

and DUDE...
THANKS for the chick walking in the santa outfit with the red light!

You can get your flywheel lightened for about $60. It will also work on a 701 if you ever decide to get one.

I have a 650 with Coffman pipe, MSD enhancer, Groupk milled head, lightened flywheel, Worx intake, and Solas Concord 13/16 set back 3mm. I'm planning to go to a 701 soon, so that's why I picked that prop. Works good with the 650 though. I used to have a Solas J prop, and it was too tall.

Where you at? I have a Riva extended plate and an Oceanpro plate I'm not using. You can try them if your close.

The ski had an older (but looks like brand new)pro-tec pipe on it when I got it so that base is covered.
The next thing I'll be getting is the intake grate (WORX 201 I think) and prop (now that I know what to look for). In the meanwhile I'll be looking for a stock head that I could send out to get milled (I just wouldn't be able to take the down time) or an aftermarket one.
After I have her hooking up and not cavitating like a 2 bit lady of the night I'll start on adding power.

I have a really good "mechanic" (do the initials TJ mean anything) here in town that I will be talking to. He's away right now on business so I have time to prepare, get information and not look like an idiot.

accbr, I'm in SWFlorida. That's quite a ways away from you but I'll keep your offer in mind.

Thank you Gentelmen for all the info.

P.S. That chick in my signature has 2 things going for her, a great a$$ and her voice box is facing away from me.
