Solus vs Worx short/deep scoop grate?? Differences to performance??

Hi
As above, looking to get a scoop grate for my '95 sj, most pros seem use worx deep scoop but i may be able to get a used Solus 'double scoop' for a decent price.

Anyone know the 'real-world' differences between the 3 grates?

Thanks

i also had a wamiltons scoopgrate on my last sj. it also worked very well, and if i came accross another one id probly buy it to replace my current solas one. but i havent seen many around latley and im not sure they make it anymore. i may be wrong tho

The Worx 201 is what I use for for basically all Yamaha based boats except the 08+ SuperJet hulls. That grate does a great job of keeping the boat hooked up, and I run the WR205 on the 08+ SJ hulls because that boat hard to slide and the WR228 (WR 201 adapted for the redesigned intake on the 08+SJ) is a little too aggressive for a freeride application, but it works great if you decide you want to run around some buoys.

Is is tough be beat the 201 if you are after a good freestyle/freeride grate for a older style SJ, or an aftermarket Yamaha based hull.

I personally think the intake grate is one of those things that needs to be tuned for each ski. If you're your prop is borderline under pitched, you can benefit from the huge scoop grate. If you're prop is borderline over pitched, you can benefit from a much smaller grate. I know most people buy the grates for hook up but that's my opinion.

Well, I got the Worx 201 in the end & WOW!! Do I wish I had of done this earlier... Totally transformed my ski; so much better in ALL ways.

Awesome hookup, can jump much higher in flat water, more predictable to slide around, just amazing!

Makes you wonder why manufacturers don't fit them as standard?

Cheers for the input all, very helpful.

Thx

ross, why would this one be too agreesive for freeride but work good for running buoys? the more agressive grate hooks better but scrubs speed right? what disadvantage was there in ocean freeride with it?

like he said its because you need the boat to slide for surf riding. the new hull already has alot of hookup, so a much less agressive intake is needed to let the pump unhook.

Ah sliding out,ive never seemed to have a issue with getting any grate to do that in surf, lol so that 228 must be really sticky if it slows ross up any,it must make the back of the ski ride alot lower,I have a worx 201 on one ski and a rapid knockoff of it on another and even it has way less stick, back of the ski rides much higher......could always be that soggy foam to though
