So I did something stupid...

I am doing some work to my RN SJ and stripped a bunch a crap off it for a new hood, nose and eventually X Metal Pole. I ended up selling almost all the stuff that I thought I would not need for the build to some kid.

Now here my problem...
You know the two Allen screws that hold the forks in to the ski... and the metal plate underneath that the two screws on each side screw into??? I kinda gave them to the kid not thinking that I am going to re-use them! Dam! lol

What should I do?...

Basically I need to know the size of those screw so I can search for some Stainless Steal Nuts and maybe make my own little plate somehow and re-attach it. Or, do I even need the plate really, can i just put nuts on? I mean its only holding the forks to the ski so I can imagine it needing THAT MUCH SUPPORT?

Let me know your thoughts!

PM Jetmaniac, he's got a ton of that little stuff. It's OEM and way cheaper than buying stainless at your local ACE Hardware.

I'm not sure what part you are referring to.

I would pick up the screws at Ace if you have one convenient (NO SHIPPING!) - small screws like that are very cheap.

lol Sorry for my terminology... What ever those things are that the hood hooks slide into the secure the hood down. The two screw on each piece (4 total).

Sounds like items #21 and #25, the Hood Hook hardware. If I understood it right he has the hooks, just needs the Screws and Backing plates.

Exactly! That backing plate I no longer have... What should my alternatives be? Would washer and nuts do it? Or should i just buy new ones? and yes it is #21/25. What size nut would it need?

get another backing plate made. one that is not threaded and then put some stainless allenbolts through it with lock nuts. that is how my rn is set up.

you don't NEED the plate but it is wise to have one depending on your riding style. if your not throwing rolls or BF's and you just riding, then no you don't need it. now if you abuse your ski like most of us do then it would be smart to have it. the purpose of the backing plate is to distibute stress from the pole and bracket evenly so the fiberglass has less stress in that area.

Exactly, also 2 more considerations;

1)If you ever plan on going to an RRP pole setup, just use fender washers for now as the RRP has it's own hood hooks incorporated and doesn't reuse any of the oem stuff.

2)If you ever plan on upgrading to billet hood hooks then they require longer hardware than oem and use the stock backing plate.

Personally, I've busted up a pole mount area before and want as much reinforcement under there as i can get.

Oh, ok. Hull side hood hooks.

Those should be 6x1.0 bolts. Like tbaer said, if you are pulling tricks or anything, get a backing plate.

Actually, if you are pulling tricks or surf ride, get some hood straps or a brap strap. Then the hood hooks are really only there as a back up and help align the hood. You really wouldn't need the backing plate then, just some washers.

Yes, I understand the stress distribution thing... I was just curious on your thoughts! I do ride surf and I am personally one of those people rather be safe then sorry so I will definitely get a backing plate made out of something.

I believe i will also be using the XMetal Pole eventually which will be my next add-on this winter.

Thanks for all the help fellas!

I've never run the brap strap so i don't know where it attaches but most hood straps attach to the Hood hooks so if they fail, both systems fail. Some Aftermarket Pole mounts have provisions for the hood strap and that is a much better solution.
