Super Jet SN Build and Assembly

Hey all..

Picked up a 1993 SN Superjet and a bunch of extra parts. The nose is a little rockered (This is my first non-Kawi) or at least it appears to be to me. The hull is completely bare besides the sides being reinforced, 4 brand new motor mounts and a brand new midshaft/thru hull bearing.

I sold off the B-Pipe chamber and the Protec headpipe/chamber that came with the ski, as well as two spare handlepoles which basically made me break even on what I spent for the whole package. I am looking to now assemble it with all the stock parts that came with the ski. There is an MSD enhancer that is already in the ebox, so I think I'll keep it.

There are some items I am missing, such as the start/stop assembly, throttle cable. etc. other than that, I think I can get the ski about 90% complete with what I have.

This will be a lengthy project for me, as I only get a few hours every few nights to work on it. So bare with me, but I will also have a TON of questions to ask. Hoping to have this water ready by the beginning of the new year.

Here are some pics, I picked up all the parts last week but not the ski yet, due to work schedule and going to pick up my trailer.

I should pick up the ski one night this week.

The engine is a 62T/62T

also, the dual 38 carbs that came with the ski don't look too bad condition wise, but look like they were mismatched. one with choke butterfly, one without and some other fittings, etc that look off... so, for the sake of simplicity, and to mimic what I have on my 650sx, I am opting to go with the single carb manifold.

I know the ski has a scupper valve, as the PO used to surf ride... I am also looking to close it off, or to keep it looking decent, just come up with something to block it. I think I even remember reading about people sealing it closed.

the 61T motor I have is dismantled. Head off, pistons out, cylinders separated from bottom end.
I watched a video on a guy rebuilding a 701 and he had a black bumper on the bottom side of the engine/bedplate.
Obviously its a dampener of some sort. mine doesn't have that. Is this a necessary part? because if anything, if its in the underside of the plate and it touches the floor of the hull, wouldn't that cause more vibration?

Subb'd. I was wondering if you were going to get a build thread going. I gave up on trying to go with a single carb because I couldn't find a manifold for the 62t I guess no one makes them anymore. From what I read on that rubber piece under the motor some say it's supposed to help with vibration and others say it's help the motor mounts not compress so much on hard landings.

the nose doesnt look rockered at all, he just cut the nose part of the bondline off so it doesnt grab and pull the nose down. definitely an improvement over the stock nose appearance. if you have dual sbn 38s that came with the 62t setup then id keep and run that. duals are pretty easy to tune as long as you have jet settings which for 701s are everywhere. properly dialed dual 38s can have better throttle response and more power than a larger single carb setup.

Yea I'm not too familiar with fiberglassing, cutting etc...I was told from the owner he "rockered" the front... and all I know is I didn't originally want the ski, so I was only really looking at it while it was in the corner of the garage, and it didn't look like the typical SN with the notch in the front that angles down, and then the black rubber nose cover.
so when I was on my way back to get the trailer he told me he'd take an offer, I only made the offer because I thought it was a RN, didn't ask the year.. once I made the offer and went there, that's when he gave me some more details on it.
If it was a straight up SN, I would have passed on it. I figured, hey, this is something I can work with

I also noticed that there are options out there, suck as buying a carter B rocker nose, and since I really wanted a RN, theres a company who make the entire top side mold of a RN that you can install on the SN lower hull.. Not saying im doing that, but down the road if I wanted to make this a keeper, something to think about.
I know people say that defeats the purpose, and just buy a RN...well, considering I am +$200 from where I started with this ski, and the topside kit is like $1,000.. It would be worth it to me considering all the decent to nice RN's I've seen are at a minimum $3k that are in just ok shape...

In the meantime, I sold off more of the spare parts and was able to actually FIND a single carb manifold by chance...not cheap but still bought from the funds of sold parts from this purchase...As well as the entire stock exhaust setup besides the long black hose/tube, which I already had. Got all of what you see in the pic for $70....the problem was the shipping basically cost $70...thankfully the seller ate most of the cost on that.

as you see, there are also a few stock dual carb parts in there, and I also have some stock dual carb parts..so I will either sell them for pennies on the dollar just to put towards little extras that I'm missing, or keep the clean setup as a backup in case I feel like I want to go ahead with the dual carb setup.

It's not that I'm opposed to it, I just haven't had the best luck tuning dual carbs, including when I once let a "professional" from one of these sites work on it. In fact, they were returned with a leaking plate, stuck N&S, etc.
So I just want to get a basic setup built and going, get this ski on the water, evaluate it, see how it handles, see if there are any leaks, etc. Then I'll go from there. If it's worth putting more time and effort and investment into, then I'll begin with the modding...
But for now, I want to see what a SJ actually rides like compared to this 650sx, which I feel is moderately stiff.

gotcha...well its probably there for a reason, so im going to install one once I find one. I've got this entire motor totally clean, even the bottom side of the plate is spotless.

So it begins....
I was on the hunt for an AM pole bc I didn't want to use the stock tapered fat up top SN pole.
Turns out the ski has a not-stock pole.
Does anyone know what this pole is? Doesn't feel like aluminum, more like metal/steel.

This is the newer version but from what I can find they go for around $400. I’m not 100% sure it’s the same either but it looks really similar to mine. Xmetal was what x scream used to be called
