It was beautiful today in Cleveland so I took a hike down to the beach and....

:scared::17::aargh4::bigeyes::cussing::thinking::angryfire::261::crazy::indifferent::puke:

There was the nastiest smell that reminded me of rotten cootchie!!!
and 100's of 1000's of dead little silver fish on the beach about 4-5 inches long. I remember this happening about 4 years ago.

What is it, the 4 year dead fish plague??? It happened right about this time of year when the lake was still in the mid thirty degree range.

Anyone know about this?

Last time they were all gone by April...

Maybe that's what was going on when I was there. It was this time of year about 5 yrs ago. I had never been to Cleveland & the smell didn't impress me! And there was some sort of funky foam & gunk all in the water.

it usually happens in our local polio ponds when the oxygen level of the water gets to low....but its always when its really hot for a week or two...or its bacteria in the water...:woot:

I've never seen it happen this early. It usually happens if the water warms to quickly. The silver fish you see somehow cannot adjust to rapidly warming water. However, that's probably no the likely cause in this case, since the lake is not that warm yet.

I didn't see any of that when I went down to the beach yesterday up here in the Buffalo area. :arms:

I see it every year. Its these little silver fish that beach themselves every year at the same time.

Don't let the enviromentalists catch wind of this or they will blame it on ski-doos!
