I get cranky when my porn machine goes down as well :D

That's why you use a cheap tablet for that.

I'm not sure what happened to the laptop. It was on running fine. I came back later and it was on a blue screen that said it was unable to make repairs. None of the check disk stuff worked. I used the HP utility to pull my files off of it and then did a restore. It's working now.

It actually crashed once before. I have tried to play a few games on it and the frame rates were low. I ran a Nvidia driver update, not sure if that was involved. Last thing I did was change the resolution from 4k to 1080 and was downloading Forza 6 to see if it would run on the lower resolution. I came back and it was dead.

If you want years of bliss lock that thing down from all updates (hopefully you got 7 but if not then 10 PRO)....create a folder for drivers that you find and use....treat it like a off line workstation that happens to be able to get on the internet. No one at all is allowed to make changes automatically. No one.

system restore only impacted my SSD. The Data on my HDD was not impacted.
thats really weird because a SSD can take a harder impact than a HDD before it malfunctions.

I didn't mean a physical impact. The laptop is only 3 days old, has been babied and was sitting on the table when it crashed. I'm thinking maybe one of the Nvidia drivers I downloaded or something caused it to lose its mind. It has auto updates on including display drivers so whatever driver the NVidia app installed was clearly not necessary.

I think my frame rate issues are from having a 4k screen with a 965m graphics card. I'm going to try things again at 1080p. Sucks to not run a new PC at it's native resolution but really it shouldn't have a 4k screen and be called a gaming PC if it can't run games natively. I only took the upgrade screen for other stuff like video editing and the graphics card for CAD, and am going to use my Xbox for gaming, so it's really not necessary that games work. It's just nice if the thing I have with me all the time plays some games. My GAEMS case is pretty huge to carry just cause.

All that matters is sketchup works right. email today said my student status should be approved by tomorrow.

what are you going to school for? im trying to get into 3d CAD work as well as BIM drawings and have been trying to figure out which kinda degree would be more beneficial towards it, drafting and design or graphic design or even as far as some kind of engineering degree

Hey guys. I don't think that sketch up will work to well on curved surfaces.

It will work well for simple shapes and square edges but you may need to go into something with better edge/surface resolution to make good models for CNC and high res 3 D prints

Public safety. I'm not presently using sketchup for anything work related. I just used my student status for the discount otherwise I would have bought something else. Even though I'm not doing design work presently and it is not related to this degree, urban planning, architecture and etc are all very applicable to my career.

There are a lot of engineers and the like on this site however that can help you. There have been a few past threads on the very topic you bring up.

Thanks. I noticed it doesn't have a lot of the tools I saw in the brief time I toyed with solid works. I was looking at some plug ins. I don't see tools like round over, chamfer, etc on the base toolbars, but I've only messed with Sketchup for about a hour.

I downloaded it and played around for a bit last night. It's definitely not going to replace Solidworks or Autodesk Inventor but it will be awesome for sketching up my bathroom reno, my new work benches and help find a refined layout of my garage. Who knows, I may even finally get to map out my in ground sprinkler system.

Too bad I only get 30 days on the demo version. :(

Did you use your student status to get Solidworks too? The student version is something like $129 and veteran is as low as $90 IIRC.

I did not, but I will look into it. I'm sure solidworks is a lot more correct for what I want to do. I didn't realize it could be had for that price. Should have done some more research first. Not that $50 is all that big of a deal but I have plenty of things I need to spend money on and haven't.

At Daytona, my oem turf finally fell off, the sole of my shoe fell off and something electronic began to fail. My daughter was pushing around a toy that cost about $300, not including missed overtime, etc. At least I can say I have my priorities straight.

I just don't remember if it is an annual license or unlimited...IIRC, it only gets you the licence for one year.
