What are the best ways to easily modify the stock Sj hood for surf riding? I have heard of blocking of some holes??? I am leaving for Daytona in a couple of days to I don't have time to do much.............Are there any tricks for the stock hood?

you can glass over (or duct tape) 2 holes in the front of the hood or maybe 3
then you may widen the rear holes to compensate for the closure you did up front
its mainly reccomended that you widen the rear if you close off the front :ugh2:

Do it twice?That's DooDoo
you can get cap plugs to plug the holes for free... they give out free samples... just might take a week to show up at your door... do a search on this site for caplugs to get the site and what size and stuff.

Try these out, they work perfectly and are cheap. You obviously can find them at lowes in the hardware pull out drawers. you will need (2) 1 1/2" ones and (1) 1 1/8" that will take a little bit of bending the arms out for a better fit. someone might want to also get the next size up from the 1 1/8". It might work better. $1.39 each. They look good, pop in and out when wanted, and wont rust for a couple years.

As mentioned a lot of guys block off the front holes and enlarge the rear ones. The reasoning behind this is to move your air intake away from the direction of the water. But I’ve noticed when coming off a big stab or a backy my ski submerges entirely and water comes in the rear holes as easily as the front holes. IMO you don’t need to modify your hood at all, you just need to have a good aftermarket bilge setup or a scupper

i've read somewhere on here that scuppers are not a good idea in the surf. if the ski is upside down after a crash, scuppers let the air out, filling the ski up with water and sinking it. makes sense.

reliable bilge, hood straps and maybe duct tape 2 of the holes in the front.

Waves probably won't be big. Right now it is like riding flatwater.
