Silica Thickener

Hey Guys, i can't seem to find ANY information in regards to mixing ratios with Silica.

I'm doing my holds right now and ordered the blowsion hull reinforcement kit, but there doesn't seem to be any info on the silica, and i've never used it before with epoxy.

Question is, what kind of ratio should i be using? Or do i just slowly mix it in until i hit the desired/needed viscosity?

Slowly mix it until the consistency of peanut butter....

In boat building, they call it peanut butter for this reason...

Just add till it will not sag on a vertical surface. Dont breath that stuff in, its bad news.

Next time get what you need from Solar Composites... It's a lot cheaper... Hell, even West Marine or Boaters World would be cheaper than Blowsion...

Sometimes it comes with "clumps" or pieces that will be harder to stir in and make your mix lumpy. To prevent that, run it through a strainer or sifting screen first. It will blend better.

Mayonaisse or Peanut Butter.
Just keep adding until desired consistency.

Thanks guys, i just figured blowsion was the way to go since it's my first time workin with most of this stuff, and pretty newb at the whole industry, didn't wanna make any mistakes!

Anyways, holds are in and screwed and glued! now just gotta wait....weeks for the thing to dry, not exactly warm here...

Use lights.....they work like a charm

Get some heat on it. Epoxy will never cure right if its extremely cold.

I would not leave it overnight....that would be overkill.
I say a couple of hours and you should be OK....
Touch it as time goes by and feel the epoxy get tacky until hard.

alright. well i set up a teepee type thing with tarps over the whole thing with both lights pointing at each hold. Should warm it up pretty quick i'd think

haha, funny guy!

on a serious note though, i ended up getting a small commercial propane heater for the garage and set that up. Figured i'll need heat anyways for the foam and turf work...toasty warm now!
