Side or rear exhaust on a Blaster?

Anyone ever try running side exhaust on a B1? Any advantage to running the exhaust straight out the back? other than keeping the pump clean. Not looking to do tailstands or anything, just rebuilding the B1 and wanted to do something different.
If anyone has done this, could you post pics for ideas please.
Thanks

Any input on the SJ rear side exhaust? work well? Does the water pressure when turning affect power?

I have been STRONGLY considering installing a front exhaust on a blaster. My next hull just might get one. In the surf on a B1, coming down tail first slightly leaned to one side pretty much means your going to fall over.

The downside to the blaster vs. a standup in my opinion is the fact that on a blaster your are either on it of you're off it. There is no in between like there is on a standup. I think a front exhaust would dramatically help to stay ON the ski.

why out the front?

well on my next hull i plan on putting a bulkhead at the front of the pump cavity and pour foam in whole rear of the ski under the rear deck.if keep the stock exaust location i will install a fiberglass exaust tube.or i can put a front exaust on and save myself some work.ill cross that bridge when i come to it

good point on the landing angle. when ever my nose is high in the air and the back end is submerged I'm going down. And you are right, you can't fake a landing on a blaster.

the trick is to stay off the trottle until you get through the first "bob"and the pump fills with water.if you get on the throttle right away the pump just sucks air and cavitates like crazy.i too think that front exaust would help this a little

That's definitely the trick. It's not so much the straight up and down landings that cause problems. It's the ones that are straight up and down with the nose tilted off one way or another that cause issues. Then when the ski "bobs", it's bobs off in a sideways motion.

I've gotten pretty damn proficient with landings, but I do think a front exhaust would allow them to be that much better that much more often.

I usually side board from the left side, so I would run it out the right side. Seems like it would be really simple, easy access.
Thanks for info fellas. Butti: I have been using pics from your B1 build to do my ski, thank you!

So it looks like I will give this a whirl. I'll post pics when I figure out what I'm gonna use.

Is this to help keep the transom from cracking?

yup ....as sturdy as i made mine after a year and a half of abuse and hitting bottom more times than i can count it is starting to develop some cracks.thats the only other thing i can think to do to make it stronger.the transom is already 1/2in thick!

HOLY SMOKES!! 1/2 in?? I dunno what mines at, but I have 4 layers of biaxel and a layer of cloth. Do you think I should add more? That transom takes a beating.

Possibly rod holer, I may use the stock type outlet and make a fiberglass flange on the outside to direct it down. I'll post pics when I do it.
