Shortening stock SN pole???

I've seen a few threads about shortening RN poles, but can't seem to dig up any info on cutting a squarenose pole. Is it possible?? Any link/pics/instructions??

Theres a few cheap squares around at the moment, just want to know how cheap I can keep things while modding them, s free shortened pole would be a start.

the rounds are easy because of the metal bracket. Just cut and rivet.The square is different because the mounting area is the same piece as the pole so you have to cut and glass together. Theres also a tube for the controls to add to the frustration. Seams like buying a shortened aftermarket would just be easier

thanks, I realised the difference just wasn't sure if someone had come up with a way of doing it?

Does a RN pole fit a SN? That may be another way of keeping it cheap.

What a perfect thread.
I was just searching the very subject yesterday and came up empty.

I have seen a picture of a square with a roundie pole on it but no info on how it was done.

I think it would be cool if the RN pole could be bolted up to the the SN as there seams to be many more options for the RN.

I can picture my SN with a RN pole and since I'll be modding my hood anyway I could maybe make it a bit shorter and tighter around the pole. That could be nice, mmkay.

Check out Frosty 95 square build up. You can put a RN on a SN with a bought or made pole brkt. Any questions he'll probably answer, he on here enough!! LOL:haha:

Yes, you can relatively easily shorten a stock Squarenose pole.

I am converting a squarenose to round nose pole and bracket in my garage right now.

I reinforced all around the bracket mount area, and drilled holes to mount the round nose pole bracket.

Easy.

Another question, both these look pretty good, which one sounds better?

The one with the pipe is a few hundred$$ more, the other one comes with a spare hull.

i know that legdragpete sell some sort of bracket for cheap, it may just be a lowerd bracket for a RN, but its worth shootin a PM his way. also, surfguy45 just put a RN pole on his square, so you could shoot him a PM also for some info. theres tons of info on this site, i guess you just have to know where to get it from. good luck.

A stock RN pole is pretty light. In fact, I think it's lighter than any of the AM poles out there.
The SN bracket will not fit a RN pole (I think). Most people just use an AM RN bracket.

I cut a round nose pole in about 15 minutes, was very simple. A square would be a biotch to shorten.

Contact LegdragPete (Pete Jacobs), he makes a great conversion bracket for using a RN pole on a SN. yeah, like $145 or something.Only draw back to changing, is you need to change the location of your hood hooks on the hood itself. The RN hood hooks mount further out from center than the SN. You'll need to fill in the holes and drill new ones. - not that big a deal though. It's also set up to use the 2 bolt system rather than pivot bolt and spring. I prefer to use the pivot bolt and spring myself, so I had to weld a couple of block of aluminum to the bracket... basically to keep the spring from slipping when the pole was lowered.

All in all, I think the RN pole looks way better on the SN, and is a helluva lot lighter too.

Yep playing with stock poles is the only option here, still not sure if I'll even end up with a SJ, just thought I'd ask about the poles cause they can end up one of the more expensive items.

I actually like the square pole more, it fits so flush with the hood/nose piece, sexy.

The 1st one has a pipe which is a big plus, but a 93 stock motor is only a 700?? The 2nd is bored, is that a bit risky with an older ski?? Any square experts here?? I was leaning toward the 2nd because I could do up the spare hull without having any time off the water, so I could take my time and get it real good, then do a swap, just a bit worried that those cylinders might not have much life left in them if they're already bored?

I cut my SN pole down....It wasn't hard...it did take some time, maybe a few hours, but overall not hard.
