shortening steering nozzle

anyone ever do this?

the steering nozzle on my F1 sticks WAY out due to the 144 pump and small cavity..

I was thinking about chopping an inch or so off it to make it not so vulnerable to the bottom..

anyone ever try this or have any info?

I thoiught I remembered some post from awhile ago that Malone shortens the steering nozzle, but I couldnt find it in a search..

i thought AM companies sold lengthened ones to give better steering response. so I would guess shortening would have the opposite affect?

probably, but I always thought that a longer nozzle was more for racing.....

with the extra steering throw we add to a standup, I dont know if anything would be lost by shortening..

I know though with one good backside landing my nozzle will be toast

If you slip off the back of your ski, you might scrape your shin with a nozzle like that. Still got the scar from july... Then again, if you don't do something stupid and slip off the back, there shouldn't be any problems. Thinking back, if I hadn't hit my shin, I might've clipped my knee which would've hurt even more.

My guess with Malone is that if he really cut the nozzle, he was probably trying to clear the hull for more trim. Just a guess though...

In my experience, a longer nozzle means better steering response.
Perhaps it's due to the shorter hull?

i had a protec nozzle for a trim setup minus the trim that was shortened...it seemed to work fine, i couldn't really tell the difference when i switched to a stock one..

Mine sticks out pretty bad too, I was wondering the same thing. I have shortened the hull more since this picture so its even worse now. And I have tagged the bottom with it!
