Shortened Hull Question...

SXR-FOREVER

Finally Flippin
I cut back the back of my SXR by 2" or so and I was wondering if I should cut the ride plate back as well??

I have an X2 Trim on it which sticks out farther than the stock nozzle so I kinda like the idea of keeping my rideplate back to help protect that if I bottom out...but would that be working against the cut hull if that makes sense..

Could use some input, thanks!

I would say leave the ride plate alone and trim it up to fine tune it.mabe take 1in off to start.

leaving the ride plate that long i think would defeat the purpose of shortening the hull. when i shorten mine i am gonna cut the plate at the same time..

I'm all for doing one step at a time... See how the hull works like it is and then see how much difference cutting the plate makes. That way you can tweak it from there. What's one more day on the water without cutting it? But if you cut too much off the plate before ever testing it and you can't control it then you don't know if the plate or the hull was to blame.

Or, start out longer, and work your way down.
I am not sure I understand what the big drawback of this is? :dunno:

I've got three of em... if you don't like it, I'll trade ya.
I say cut it. I cut mine and it made a little difference, (but not nearly enough). I am guessing yours with the short hull and long plate will ride like mine with the short plate and long hull. It is hard to raise up an SXR nose. They like to dive bigtime.

it only defeats the purpose by about 1/3.

leave it. run it. cut it after riding it, if deemed necessary.

It will be necessary...

could be. probably will be.... but every rider/ski combo is different.

"its hard to put it back", is right.

cutting it will result in a much more aggressive 'upward-bound' ride. which is obviously what hes after.... but doing a little at a time could suit his 'learning curve' on his new hull shape a little friendlier.

.... or just say fuggit and chop it!:rocketwhore:
