Server OS question

I just got a Dell Power Edge 2500 from a friend. It has no operating system installed, and I want to get it running to play with. I was hoping to run windows server 2003, but though I might run ubuntu.

I'm going to use it mostly as a file server, print server, remote terminal, and run a few windows apps.

Where can I get a copy of Win Server 2003 fairly cheap, other than stealing it. I'd like to keep it legit, but it's not being used for for anything other than my entertainment.

If you're a college student you can get a copy for free through your University.

Otherwise, Microsoft has a monopoly, its the same price everywhere you go. Beware of the corporate editions.

There are no student editions, but Microsoft has deals with Universities to offer their software for free. Basically, they take your tuition and buy licenses at a discount to make Microsoft look like they care about education.

Corporate editions are are hella expensive, so if someone is selling a version cheap, it is probably a corporate edition. Each license is allowed to be installed a certain number of times, after that, it won't work.

There are many, many reasons why buying something like this is a bad idea. Number one, its illegal.
