I can't emphesize OEM pistons enough. Really people? You spend $500 on a port job, and try to save $40 bux when it comes to the pistons? I can get thousands of hours out of a motor with oem pistons.

OEM Yamaha pistons, Vertex, and Pro-X are all made by ART. They are all the same :):):):) but I guess Vertex puts some coating on their stuff or something. I've never really looked into it.

I have heard they are all made by the same company, but I only trust what I take out of the Yamaha box.

If you look on the underside of an OEM piston, you should see ART. Same with a pro-x, I've never looked at the underside of a Vertex, so I can't confirm on that one.

I would like to explain that Art is a company in Japan that makes pistons for OEM Yamaha. Art also makes pistons for Pro-X.
Pro-X is not a manufacturing company, they are a large aftermarket distributor.
The Vertex company is located in Italy and are owned by the same parent company that owns Pro-X(the P.M.I. group). The piston molds and machining techniques are the same.. Also, OEM/ART, Pro-X, VerteX all use the same RIK(Riken company) ring sets.

OEM, Pro-X, or VerteX all say ART inside and have the same OEM designations inside the piston too(ie.,61X, 64U, etc).

The VerteX company started in 1953 and is the leader in Italy and in Europe for Powersports pistons production, with as customers the most important OEM companies and Racing Teams in motorcycles, PWC, go-kart and marine engines.

About the skirt coating on VerteX:
Piston skirts are Molybdenum Bisulphide coated for faster break in and increased piston life. All pistons are heat treated with a T5 hardening and tempering cycle.
Vertex Pistons are race proven to be a strong and high performance piston.

X Scream recommends the Vertex pistons

Need I say more?:bigok: :brap:

pistons

i don't know about sbt pistons, however due to the light weight material used to make the wiseco piston when they heat up(motor gets to optimal temp) they expand i just had a motor built by lpw and he said the bore needs to be slightly(thousands) larger then a bore for say pro-x also pro-x last longer than wiseco but the pro-x are heavier it all depends on Howe fare you are going on a build that will determine what pistons you would want to run i would and do run the wiseco just have someone who knows there stuff bore your caliber and you wont seize the motor
