I run nothing but factory Yamaha pistons. They may cost slightly more, but the long gevity <sp> is well worth it. If its a money thing, I would save it somewhere else, the pistons are one of the most important things in the motor (duh). I have never seen factory pistons fail like aftermarket ones. Not to say they don't, but I would say at a much lower rate.

X Scream recommends the Vertex pistons, and that's what I have in my motor. Been really happy with them so far.

I would not use wiescos unless the builder recommended them. I have seen too many of them seize. I know they say they need to be setup correctly and warmed up slowly, but thats not always the case.

How can you buy OEM pistons from yamaha if you need a "next size up piston".

Most usually bore out the cyclinders when doing a topend rebuild and if your buying stock size yamaha pistons how will they work?

I can't believe you asked that Dirk but okay since you did OEM means original equipment manufacturer,it has nothing to do with it being std bore,1st,2nd,3rd or 4th oversize.

I have never looked at any OEM part supplier websites for oversized YAMAHA brand pistons. I assumed those parts distributors only offered OEM parts and would not include oversized pistons in their diagrams......but I now see that they do!

I have never heard anyone refer to using Yamaha pistons when rebuilding a motor........I only hear about Wiseco,sbt,pro-x,wsm etc......

Now that I have looked, I see Yamaha does make/offer only 1 size over stock. (bikerbandit.com)

They dont seem very expensive......why dont more people use/mention Yamaha pistons when this topic comes up??

Why TF would a manufacturer make an engine and not make parts to rebuild it with, they are engines not Bic lighters.

I never heard anyone mention oversized Yamaha pistons when discussing rebuilding motors before.....until now.

I just figured it was one of those products that Yamaha left to the aftermarket compaines to capitalize on.
I assumed yamaha would want people to buy new OEM cylinder/sleeves and OEM size piston's in the event of a rebuild.

Everytime I have seen piston kits offered, I never saw Yamaha as an option......so give me a break!

I can't emphesize OEM pistons enough. Really people? You spend $500 on a port job, and try to save $40 bux when it comes to the pistons? I can get thousands of hours out of a motor with oem pistons.
