Other sbn rebuild question

okay I am rebuilding an sbn for the first time. I have done several bn carbs before but this is the first sbn. My question is,..... there is a small round piece (slightly smaller than a dime) that is behind the pump. Does this get removed and replaced when cleaning and rebuilding. I do recall there being one in the bn model that was removed and replaced,... but in the diagrams of the rebuild kits for the sbn I don't see this part to replace. I have not bought a kit yet. So any input would be greatly apreciated.

Billy,.. the bn as I recall had 2, the sbn I only see one that resembles this,... and none of the manuals say anything about removing this part,.... so I am curious as to what this is.

jet maniac thank you for the links,... the part that I am refering to can be seen in the sbt manual,... figure 1-8. There are 2 large semi circles, that form a circle that an oring fits into. in the lower semi circle there apears to be a small circle slightly smaller than a dime. What is this? do I need to remove and replace?

The SBN also has two. If it's not crinkled or otherwise damaged, you don't need to replace it.
I'm not sure of the name anymore....anti-siphon valve?

these are your fuel pump one way check valves, they do come in a kit, and yes, i would recommend replacing.

be sure to also replace the needle and seat.

also, use ONLY genuine mikuni parts, and kits. i have personally tried every aftermarket kit, and beware, you get what you pay for...

From the description, the OP is not talking about the fuel pump one-way valves, he is talking about the metal plug in that same area.

vrizi, no...you do not remove or replace that shiny metal colored disc. It's just a plug that covers a hole required for manufacturing. But, as others have suggested, make sure you replace the 2 clear diaphragm one-way valves in the fuel pump. Also make sure to replace the black plastic internal filter (IIRC some kits come with it, some don't). As others have said...use GENUINE MIKUNI kits only.

Just for the record, Im not bagging on you John at all. Your one of the good guys..

But, Im not agreeing with this statement, and its not because I sell carb rebuild kits either. In a lot of cases the saying "you get what you pay for" is true. I will most definitely agree with that, but sometimes there are things that can be just as good if not better than the original and sell for a bit less.
The common wisdom of “you get what you pay for” also usually equates to the highest cost = the best product, and anything that costs less is inferior. Anyone with real life experiences with a product and common knowledge know this not to be true in all cases!

All my gaskets are made here in Havasu, but my carb kits come from the Winderosa company in Maine, USA. I have sold 300+ SBN kits in the last 4 years, and have had only one complaint and that was a guy who installed the kits for 3 months and then took his carbs apart and let the Orings sit for another 3 months after sitting in fuel and they shrank up... That's it, only complaint and it was his own fault. I have used maybe 12+ kits on my own builds and also on my 44mm Blackjacks and they worked flawlessly for 3 years, then I sold the ski. Winderosa has been in the business here in the US since 1967.

Also, Chris(Jetmaniac) and crew use SBT rebuild kits and those guys dont have any problems either and are confident in their carb kits. We would not put our reputations on the line and sell parts that are inferior junk that do not last.

Ive compared my Winderosa kit with a Mikuni kit and the quality and specs are all there. They are just as good if not better.

i can respect that.

i will say, i have never tried the winderosa mikuni kit. ( that i can remember anyway). the last winderosa kits i tired were actually for kehin carbs, and this was back in the early 90's. i had problems with them right away, ski would not run, until i switched over to genuine kehin parts. i know the check valves & diaphragms were a different thickness & quality than OE. maybe they have upped / changed their quality? this was probably 16 to 18 years ago...

i hear people all the time say they have had good luck with kits xyz, and IMO that is great. any more, i just cannot afford to guess, and i know the mikuni stuff is always good. they are pricey though, and i totally understand a budget. with me doing service on customers machines here, i just cannot afford to do things two or more times, ( and only get paid for one time). so i tend to stay safe, and with what i know has been proven here in my shop, any way. once i have gotten a bad taste, or had problems with something, i typically will NEVER try anything from that product name again. back in the early days, i have tried all kits, SBT, winderosa, jetlyne, CPC, etc, and there was always some issue. so i just stay away.
