Update: It was a faulty stator.
Been working on a 94 SN and I can't seem to get it running right. It has never ran just right since my buddy bought it, he knew about the issue, but thought it was a carb problem, seems to be more than that.
Setup
61X/61X
Factory B-pipe
Hooker 9/15
MSD Enhancer
600 Feet above sea level
SBN 44
125 pilot
155 main
1.5 N&S
22 PSI Pop-off
1.25 turns out on high
1/8 to 1 turn out on low speed (Doesn't seem to change how it runs once its running bad)
When you first start up the ski when its cold it hits surprisingly hard right off bottom, then after you ride it for about 5 min you lose that low end snap.
You can be going under 1/4 throttle, then give it full throttle and the rpm's only raise to about 2500 RPM (guesstimate) for 1 to 3 second then like a light switch it just takes off to full RPM, engine doesn't cut out, just seems like my throttle cable take 1-3 seconds to catch up to my finger, but i know that's impossible.. No matter how much you ride it, it always seems to run great on top end, once you get there.
First run after he bought it, I noticed the b-pipe was over 200F, so i backed the top and bottom screws out. It cooled it down a little, but it is still hotter than my B-pipe on my 98 SJ, I have backed the screws out 5+ turns, its still hotter than my 98 SJ, but under 200F now. I also noticed that the water adjustment screws are just normal SS 5mm bolts, instead of a needle adjuster. Could the pipe running a little too hot and not enough water cause this running issue?
When he bought the ski the throttle shaft had so much play in it, that it leaked fuel around the shaft, it was also leaking fuel from the fuel pump, so we put a new carburetor on, but still have the same issue running issue.
I took out the MSD enhancer and tried a known good CDI, still same issue.
Also tried new spark plugs, they are coco brown.
Maybe a heat break down issue in the coil or coil wires?
Any help would be really appreciated!
