rubber damper under motor?

I have seen a couple yamaha motors out of couches that have a big square rubber damper or shock absorber mounted under the engine. I am in the process of putting a pipe and head on a buddies '08 SJ and shure enough when I pulled the motor it had one too.
What is the purpose of this (I would assume to take some strain of the motor mounts from jumping)? Anybody else running one?

Sits nicely under the motor in the '08, not sure if the motor is mounted higher than previous years but I doubt it. Ive got one sitting around here from a wetjet, thats why I ask. Maybe I will toss it in, and start a new fad - rubber damper from couch saves motor mounts :scratchchin: Also makes for less area for random tools and items to escape your grasp.

I've been told that they are there to keep the motor from slamming the hull if a motor mount breaks, I don't know how close to the hull they sit though - not sure if they hit the hull when the mounts flex downward. The ones from WRIII's are deep, they could be trimmed to fit in a normal SJ? Could save mounts!

The dampner is maybe 2-3 inches tall and sits right on the bottom of the hull with the motor installed. (on the 2008)

Could save mounts!
Mounts, couplers....sh*t fire up the bandwagon. Ill drive.

I guess if you're running the soft stock mounts it might be a good idea to install one.

I have a few off the 760 engines and they require different case bolts with larger diameter heads.
