i understand that, but if hes using a square hood and a square bracket, why move the hooks? im sure theres a valid reason. im just curious as to what it is.

is it because the pole is too narrow and hits the hooks?

The squarenose hooks are positioned w/in the risers on the handlepole bracket b/c the square pole is wider. The Round pole is more narrow so those are positioned on the outside of the posts which relocates the hood hooks on the hood as well.

i see. will the square hooks hit the round pole on a square bracket? they look close. i will have to do more grinding (or look at it in the morning) to see if its going to hit them.

square hood, round bracket, and round pole.

I DID eventually grind into the pole end enough that you could see the square holes.

but that wasnt neccesary, I mounted my hood straps UNDER the rubber bumper pad, raising it, and I should have just removed the rubber bumper pad.

it would work FINE without the rubber bumper there, and the pole ground off a bit.

yes it is a BIT FX1 ish.

its all about the fashion right?

Here's a side shot of mine with the round bracket and pole. I don't have the plastic end piece on there or it would stick up higher. I moved the hood hooks out because the round pole will hit them if you try to use the square bracket.

edit: I posted some pics in this thread before.

You didn't happen to make a template for that under hull piece, did you?

I was in a hurry to get it back together, so I didn't make a template. I put the round bracket as far forward as I could. If you put it farther back the pole would sit flush with the square hood. The hood hooks location on the bracket will be a little different for everybody depending on where you put them on the hood.

This is what the stock height UMI roundnose bracket looked like on my square.
It didn't stick out much, but you could see it. I liked the look, kind of reminded me of how a hotrod looks with a blower or air scoop poking out of the hood.

So, did you have any trouble mounting the stock roundnose bracket onto the squarenose hull? What did you do about the holes in the hull for the old bracket - fill them with epoxy or leave them as is?

Are you happy with this setup?

I just checked out the XMetal Works bracket out on the Twangled website - is this the one that works as a conversion bracket (roundnose pole on a squarenose hull)?

Yes. And short of using a stock bracket, it is the cheapest option.

My plan is to fill all holes in the bracket area, reinforce heavily, then drill new holes as required by the XMW bracket.

reinforce heavily - my thoughts exactly... I've seen one thread where someone sprayed in foam then glassed over this. I kinda like this idea for the nose area and the sides but don't know if I'll have clearance issues with my B pipe if I do that.

I thought you were drooling over Solie's roundnose hull... Would that be for another project?

By the way, check your PMs
